Escapes! to Galveston
Hurricane Ike Status Update
October 6, 2008
The cleanup and restoration of the resort is well underway. A construction crew from Hoar Construction has been working at the resort, along with a team including the architect, structural engineers and disaster recovery experts.
Many of the units had some type of water intrusion, either from wind-blown rain or in the interior walls coming down from the roof. The process of drying the building started the weekend after the storm, and will continue until completed. All linens and towels are being removed from the units, and will be sent off site for laundering. Every unit is undergoing a thorough analysis and the repair plan is tailored on a unit-by-unit basis. The exterior work currently consists of sand removal, and will expand to include landscaping and repair of the boardwalk as time goes by.
The current estimate is that the resort will remain closed through February 2009, and reopen in March. This timeline is only an estimate, but provides a good indication of the scope and magnitude of the work being performed. Any significant changes in the reopening schedule will be communicated via this website.
Member services is in the process of cancelling all arrivals at the resort prior to March 1, 2009 and of contacting the affected owners to notify them of the cancellation. If you have reservations at the resort prior to March 1, and have not already been contacted, please call member services at your earliest convenience to make alternative plans at 888-382-4386 (ETC Points Owners) or 800-266-7374 (Escapes Float Owners).
We are and will continue to work with our insurance companies towards an expeditious and fair settlement. At this time, there is insufficient information to enter a discussion of the costs to restore the resort. As soon as it is practicable, we will communicate to all of the Galveston owners detailed information on the expected costs and insurance proceeds.
