Alamo car rental uses the Pontiac Grand Prix as their example of a full-size car. But, I am not familiar with that car. Does anyone know what it is equivalent to? Camry, Taurus, Accord?

The details state that the Grand Prix will hold 2 adults 2 smaller people and 1 child. I need to transport 4 adults. Will this car be big enough?

Thanks for your input.

I'd say it's close to a Taurus. It's a fairly big car; should fit 4 adults no problem.

If the people you trying to fit in the Grand Prix of average size then yes you probably could. However if you have anyone of size I would recommend a larger vehicle. Usually Alamo will let you choose your car in your size range once you arrive. The backseats of most midsize rental car are usually a bit tight.

Good Luck

Unfortunately, Grand Prix's have been "updated" in recent years to make them lighter and smaller than their namesake from a few years ago (one of which I still drive). It is workable, but I suggest that when you get to the counter, ask what other vehicles are available in that class, and insist on a 4-door.

I just drove my neighbor's GP home from dropping them off at the airport, yesterday. The only issue I can see would be leg room in the back seat. I have ridden in the back on several occassions and the leg room can be a little short if the front seats are all the way back. If they are forward some there is no problem and I'm 6' tall.

What about accompanying luggage for your entire party? How much trunk space is needed?

I was given a Grand Prix when returning home from a business trip last year. I am 6' tall with an "athletic" build. I was uncomfortable in the drivers seat. It is one of those cars with a cockpit for the drivers seat. I also had to move the seat all the way back, so I don't think someone would have been able to comfortably sit behind me for any extended drive.

I traveled with one 29" Upright suitcase, and a backpack. I put both in the trunk and I don't think there was a lot more room for more luggage. I'm sure I could have fit at least one more suitcase, but not much more.

What's discouraging is that rental car companies are renting smaller cars for each category. It is most obvious with Enterprise. Their intermediate car is another company's compact and so on.

The Grand Prix is the largest car without going to a "Premium"-sized car (which is $100 more for the week).

Does the Grand Prix come in 4-door model? Would that give more room in the back seat?

I own a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix and find it very confortable with trunk space for two 28 inch soft side luggage and a couple of carry-ons. My wife complains about her difficulty getting in and out, the seats are low. The newer models apperar to bre larger than the 2002. The 3.8 Liter V6 gets 28 to 32 MPG for all highway driving.

The new Taurus (Ford 500) is larger.

Yes, it does, and it will be fine for 4 adults.

Rental cars are almost always 4-door cars. There are some exceptions for specialty cars, convertibles, etc, but normal rental cars in the US in the normal categories are always 4-door cars.

We often pick a Malibu when renting through Alamo for a midsize car, it would be fine for four adults. Depending on where you are picking up the car, you can usually select any car within the category you reserved. This is how it is in Orlando at MCO, they have several different kinds of cars in the mid size category.
