I understand from researching on the site that even if you were to pay 2010 MFs now, I could only apply those Staroptions to an EVEN year application. My question is, couldn't I pay 2010 MFs and deposit a 2010 week in II gaining access to an exchange week in 2009?

There must be a way to leverage a 2B LO situation to secure a vacation week in off years "non-deeded use" years. ...Anyone figure this out?

Yes, you can, but many people think WKORV is too expensive to deposit for an exchange, because 95% of the resorts available through II won't be as nice or as expensive.

If you are very flexible, you will have more luck getting an equal exchange. You can even get another Starwood week, if you can travel off-season. BUT - an inexpensive resale, like SDO or SBP, will usually see about the same Starwood exchanges on II as a WKORV week, for far less money.

BTW - You can't deposit a week more than a year in advance. So just wait until Jan. 1st and then you can deposit your 2010 week. AND you will only have to pay your 2009 MF.

I.I. rules:

You can deposit for use up to 2 years into the future.

You can also BORROW one year back. So, you can borrow a week from 2010 to use in 2009.

Fred, I really don't know - but since you can't use your EOY week in the off years, can you deposit your EOY week during the off years? I don't think so. It would be more of a Starwood thing than a II thing.

Denise, you would not be using the timeshare in an off year. The 2010 use-year week remains a 2010 week. I.I. allows the trade while keeping the 2010 use in 2010.

You may be right about Starwood, but I can't see why they would object.

I've been depositing my WMH EOY into II one year prior to use, which is the earliest they allow. In fact, they now make me wait until exactly 12 months before actual use - ie. when my season becomes available for reservation as a SVN owner. I've already deposited and exchanged my 2009 deposit (Grand Timber Lodge for Dec 09 in a 3 bed, and WKORV in Sept 09 in a 2 bed). I'm still a happy II trader (and considering purchasing another - perhaps SDO - for family or business use...or both).

I don't think I was very clear in what I was trying to say, what I was referring to was your comment about depositing a timeshare 2 years in advance. Will Starwood let you do that?

Good question.
As a practical matter it would not be 2 years because the week can only be borrowed 1 year back. So, on January 2, 2009 borrow 2010 for use with I.I. in 09. BTW, it could be locked out, borrow back just one, and keep the other for 2010 occupancy.
That is how I envisioned it, in any case.

OK, now I think I understand.

The 2 years I was referring to represents the amount of time a deposit can be accrued for future use. 2 years beyond the reservation date of the week deposited.

In 09, reserve a date in 2010, and deposit it for use through that date in 2012.
or,
Borrow the 2010 week, for use with I.I. in 2009.

OK - now I see and I think you are right. - Thanks!

I was confused - When you said "borrow" I was thinking of when owners pay their MF a year in advance to borrow their Staroptions a year early, and I know you can't do that during a off-year.

OK- thanks ..I think

This is clear as mud for us remedial tuggers. The strategy of doing this on a regular basis seems possible; however I wanted to get a little clearer on the tactical steps- especially if someone practices this…

My guess is the following:
1. Pay 2010 Mfs and book both units in 2B LO (likely for Mar-Apr Time frame 2010)
2. Call II and tell them I want to immediately deposit my Studio unit for 2010
3. …Then I would gain access to an II week for 2009 use.

Please keep me out of harm’s way here….

No - you shouldn't have to pay your 2010, MF until 2010. You are not required to pay the 2010, MF to make a reservation or deposit. You have the right to deposit at 12 mos. out. (With an EOY, you will of course, be paying half the 2010, MF in 2009, anyway.)

WKORV is a mandatory resort and Starwood reserves the right to choose the week you deposit at a mandatory resort, so you will not be allowed to choose the week deposited. You just call up Owner Services after Jan. 1 and tell them you want to deposit your 2010 studio into II. They will do the rest.

See the Starwood and II article in Owner Resources for more details.
