I'm considering buying an EOY. Are there any EOY owners here? Have you had reservation or other problems that EY owners don't have. Is it true that EY owners have reservation priority over EOY owners. I really think EOY will work best for me, but I want to make sure I understand what I'm getting into. Thanks for the help. This site is a great place for information!!

In general, EOY owners have all of the rights, privileges and priorities that EY owners have, with the only difference being the frequency of use.

Over time I have own 4 EOY timeshares. One was upgraded to EY usage. One is through Marriott and they don't actually upgrade you to EY usage but give you the opportunity to purchase the coresponding EOY unit at the same price to give you EY usage with two EOY deeds.

1. I suppose each developer could have a different system but in general you have the same reservation rights as EY owners. I've never had an issue getting the dates we wanted but, we plan our vacaions out over a year in advance and request at the first opportunity. In all the systems I own there has been no difference between EY or EOY owners.

2. No, EY owners have never had any priority over my EOY ownership units. If a salesman is telling you that, then they may just want to make a larger sale. If another owner is telling you that it could just be ego or wishfull thinking on their part. If it's an assumption on your part then by my own experience it's not a correct assumption.

Like Dave said, the only difference is you usage rights. You can use the unit EOY rather than EY.

If it's a lock off unit, you can lock it off and use one side in your scheduled usage year, deposit the locked off porton into your exchange company and then exchange back into your home resort. Now in that case, for the portion you are exchanging back into your home resort through the exchange company, as a general rule you are no longer treated as an owner but as an exchanger. Then your reservation rights are dependent upon the exchange company and what inventory is available. So at that point you would have lower priorty than owners staying on their own time.

I can provide a different perspective on owning EOY - We have an EOY summer week in Cocoa Beach and the whole purpose of buying an EOY unit was so that we wouldn't get bored with going to same place each summer. This is especially true for the independent resorts out there. We simply wanted to be able to own something or rent something in the "off" years so that we could do other things. Now, if there is just that one particular place that you absolutely LOVE and want to go to every year, then by all means, buy an EY.

For us, the only way we would buy an EY timeshare is if it's within a mini-system (WM, Hilton, Bluegreen, etc.) so that we could choose a new place to go each year. We are currently looking to do this for our second TS purchase...and we will most likely be going with Hilton.

So, I am a big fan of EOY ownerships! And no, we did not experience any problems with booking our week this year even with owning an EOY. Our timeframe in which to book our week was the same as for all the other owners. Hope that helps!

EOY v. EY

Thanks for the input. I think we will look for an EOY. I don't think we need an EY, and I just wanted to be sure we weren't going to have reservation problems or some other disadvantage in the year we do want to take advantage of the TS.
