I just learned that the El Cid Riviera Maya (Puerto Morelos) is all-inclusive mandatory even for ECVC members as of June 15, 2008.

One of the main reasons that I got an EL Cid timeshare was because this was optional. We like traveling around and don't spend much time at the resort itself.

I guess there is nothing that can be done since I don't see the issue adderssed in the contract, but was wondering what other ECVC members are thinking. They probably won't expand this to their other locations at this time, but who knows?

We were there in Jan. 2007 when it was opt. but very difficult to NOT do the AI. They would not accept cash or charge to rooms at any of the restaurants or bars. Which meant you had to take a taxi or bus to go find food.
I knew they changed it to Mandatory which they just as well do.
We will not go back.

We love the El Cid Marina in Mazatlan & the towers too. We bring and go buy food but also use the restaurants and charge to our room. Sometimes we have done a day or two of AI but usually not. Since we get a 25% disc.with our Cid Shares card it costs less than the AI anyway.
We do not like the AI because we usually do not eat enough to make it worth while. We like to eat breakfast in our room and sometimes even a snack or lunch.
We were at the El Cid Le Ceiba in Cozumel in Jan. 08 and really liked it. One could do the AI but not mandatory. It is a small resort with only one restaurant so I doubt if they will ever go mandatory AI.

If they all went Mandatory we would be very unhappy!!
