It's okay by me, just like I have to accept Hilton fees with my RCI exchanges. We have only lucked into Aviara twice in our many years of traveling. It's very far from Disney, making it less attractive than Marriott. If Marriott started charging for Newport Coast and Hawaii, I would be okay with it, so would our kids be okay with it. Contrarily, I would sure not be happy with Marriott resorts in Orlando charging fees.

The funny thing is…. when I stayed at FSRC Aviara (as an owner or an exchanger), I normally didn’t use the extras including daily housekeeping. But I guess now, I should take a closer look at the extra perks and use them ;)

We stayed there for two weeks last September, and although it was nice (genteel, but a bit tired), we didn't feel there was much value in the additional $30/night resort fees. It's a lovely resort, but so are lots of Marriotts and Westins who don't charge resort fees. Like @alwysonvac, we didn't use the pool, daily housekeeping, or gym. It's not on our list of places we want to return. Just curious, do owners have to pay the resort fees?

I sold my FS week years ago but as far as I know, owners don’t pay a resort fee.

I haven’t been there since Covid, but the daily housekeeping was fantastic. They had the nicest staff I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting.

And I don’t understand why anyone would knock this resort for not being near Disney. It’s not in Anaheim, so you’d know this before going!

100% agree. They have reg housekeeping and turn down service in the evening. Don’t think there are many others like that.

Yes--- any resort fee charged is an offset for the other costs we as OWNERS have to cover. PLEASE ... stay at a resort you can afford and gives you the level of service you want. And allow the Four Seasons Resorts to maintain their worldwide reputation. I as a 10 week owner look forward the the villa update this year and understand that Calif. is an expensive place to operate.

But the FSA owner who assigned their unit to Interval already paid for every one of those things when they paid their hefty MF's. Charging an exchanger for things for which the owner already paid is double charging.

It's a money grab, pure and simple.

Robert --- if you had a chance to see our financial statements we get as owners - you would know that every 'extra dollar' the resort charges 'non-owners' is a dollar that reduces our eventual costs for next years MF. This resort is fully transparent and run by a BoD we vote on and elect. Four Seasons is a paid Management company ( whom has worldwide standards their founder insists they maintain) . We as owners. bear the brunt of rising costs. While no one like inflation it is a fact. What we have is a very attentive BoD and as such the Four Seasons do their best to give us good value for the money we pay.

The defaults all resort see is when potential buyers exceed their capacity to pay. This also causes an increase in our next years MF. PLEASE - all potential buyers - have a budget and plan ahead.

For myself, my wife and my Golden - these 10 weeks we spend here in Carlsbad are the' best spring days ever' and treasure the time and feel the costs justified. I hope you find your perfect spot.

It is shameful that the exchange companies started allowing resorts to get away with these "resort fees". As I recall, Manhattan Club was one of the first to do so and that was not appreciated at the time on these boards.

I have seen resorts outside the US sometimes charge for metered electricity, but they charge that to everyone including owners, I did not mind that as much as the idea of these "resort fees" only charged to exchangers. While every resort I have ever owned covered electricity in their m/f's, if these extra fees were charged to owners at resorts I traded into, I did not mind as much.

What was interesting was checking into a summer week on the French Riviera that I had traded into with DAE, and the people ahead of us had to pay three separate extra fees, which I was getting a bit unhappy hearing. When they came to us, those fees were not mentioned, and I think they saw the look on my face because the woman at the check-in just said "Oh, those ahead of you were from RCI." So, at that resort, it also mattered which exchange company you came in with.

I’ve been to a resort in Hawaii that charged electricity for air conditioning.
