This is from a thread I started on Marriott Insiders.

It looks like something is in the works and only needs signing off from the Execs.

Greetings, All ~ we are very encouraged to have a potential solution. Now it needs to be presented up the food chain. I'm hopeful that we can get on Exec calendars within the next month, and they'll either sign off or send us back to the drawing board. (For all our sakes...) hope for the sign off!

P.S. Sorry, but there be no interim reward.

It's an Elite Exclusive Offer for Gold and Platinum elite members,

Marriott offers a free weekend night with each weekend night purchased for Marriott's, JW's and Renaissance hotels. They are extremely popular but were getting abused, so Marriott put a hold on them until they can come up with a plan equitable to all.

Not sure what abuse was happening that they were concerned about, but I do know the certs indicated that they were a one time use and then they were being sold on Ebay and I am sure people were printing multiple copies. It seems that Marriott could just deposit some type of electronic cert to your MR account to use one per EEO cycle.

The offer actually stated that the page could be printed and shared with others. Only Golds and Platinums could see it online. I actually had a Tugger contact me asking for me to print the offer for them. After reading that it was perfectly legal, I did and emailed it over to them.

I agree with the cert.

I do agree that it indicated it was transferable, but I thought I read on it that it was one per member?

I wouldn't count on a fast resolution. Having worked for large corporations, it can take several months to get recommendations approved by senior management (if approved at all). I'll believe it when I see it. Recent trends show that the policies removing benefits receive the fast track, while any progam enhancements take much longer.

I was told by an employee of a Renaissance hotel that the club floor lounges are being taken out of their hotels. Gold and Platinum members were given accesses to these lounges. It was a real benefit to staying at a Renaissance. When they closed the lounge in Ft Lauderdale gold and platinum members were give a voucher for breakfast in the dinning room. It's an obvious move to cut costs and makes any BOGO offer less attractive.

This is interesting. I would rather eat breakfast in the dining room as it is what I want off the menu rather than what the chef chooses to send upstairs. But they were nice in the evening for me, not to have to go to the bar to get a glass of wine, just scoot down the hall, get my wine, head to my room and relax without the bar atmosphere. Less spillage than carrying it upstairs even by elevator (I'm sloppy). I also enjoyed the desserts but that I should forgo! :D

If true, I find that very surprising given that Renaissance is traditionally viewed as a slightly more upscale brand than Marriott.
