Was at Eddie Bauer website picking up a daypack for cheap (the 20L stowaway for $20) but saw this ad which pulls you into an adventure club (avid hiker here, so curious)...

On googling, looks like 39 units at WM Moab being taken away for this...

'Sales will begin this summer with exclusive st access to WM owners'...

New tack to target younger cohorts for TS with aspirational outdoorsy experiences which WM excels at...

Hope they don't take away too much inventory from us WM owners for this...

TY!

I personally think that multiple brands at the same resort lessen the overall experience. Will this property have four brands; Presidential Reserve, Worldmark, Club Wyndham and soon Eddie Bauer? Perhaps they will figure out a way to put Sports Illustrated in there too. I think it just makes for a confusing experience for the guest.

After going to this resort to hit the Jeep trails of honor for the Jeep badges I'm thinking we are done. We did a couple of parks and local hikes too so on that I think we are done. I think it's a one and done resort for most visitors so I'm thinking they are on the right path by making the Eddie Baur offer.

That surprises me. We are just trying to figure out when to return. The location is amazing, imo. This is a location that would could visit every year, but we probably will make it every other year. I hope that the Eddie Bauer club doesn't suck too much inventory out of the availability for us common wm folk.

13 month priority access to the EB resorts (currently Moab), 11 month access to the rest of WM, "Each year, enjoy one complimentary guided outing for two", and 50% off Eddie Bauer equipment.

Or just pick up a resale WM ;) Then you would have 13 month priority access on all of the WM properties, but you would have to pay for your own excursion.

I agree that the location is amazing but I think our next trip to that area would be St George for the Jeeping. We already did the hard Jeep trails at Moab is why I think one and done. I think many Jeep adventurers probably feel the same.

Fair enough. For hikers, it is like Disneyland.

Don't forget Margaritaville! They could also fit in Wyndham South Pacific if they really tried.

There are several other WorldMark resorts that are set up this way with other Travel + Leisure resort brands. Some even with other TS brands (e.g., the Village at Steamboat includes Club Wyndham, WorldMark, Westgate, and Vacation International, though I'm not sure about the current status of the last one).

fyi - No Westgate at Village at Steamboat, thankfully.

The 39 Eddie Bauer units at Moab were never part of WorldMark.

Just like all the Club Wyndham Presidential Reserve units at Moab were never part of WorldMark.

Wyndham is not "taking away" any units/inventory from WorldMark at Moab.

As usual I really wonder about the making all these sub brands. It kills economies of scale, adds even more places for Wyndham IT to screw up, and for the owners it's amounts to "badge engineering" - i.e. there's a different (maybe) logo, and IDK, like a special blender or 2 person outdoor excursion? Of course, it does let sales razzle dazzle more people with more confusion, so I guess it makes sense when all you're interested in is making sales.

The interesting thing is this does imply that Wyndham disagrees with what I've seen as the usual desires - more locations and more availability. This does align a bit with ARDA reports that younger people want more experiences, but the downside is the smaller number of "themed resorts" means the "new experiences" people are chasing will run out in the system that much quicker. If I was all in on Eddie Bauer or whatever, IDK how much "thrown in WM" would move me. Or at least I'd be asking the question of well, what about just getting WM?

I am still not even sure how much Eddie Bauer branding one will even see at the different properties. Different decor in the rooms with more brown and gray? When you walk into a property and there are five logos hanging behind the front desk, it just seems off putting. Like, does this resort really have an identity.

At a quick glance, I noted that the room was set up with a way to store your mountain bike/climbing gear/shoes etc. So I think the differentiation will be with things to accommodate equipment storage. Not a bad idea as people who visit these areas often come with expensive equipment that is not easily stored and is going to be brought inside anyway. May as well give them a designated place for these heavy, dirty things. We only hike and our boots are frequently dirty. Hard floor vs carpet would be nice. We use large shoe bags for them, but every once in a while the bags get left in the car. PITA to go back and get them.

I never bought Eddie Baur gear but I did have an Eddie Baur interior for one of my suv's. I really liked it. I would think from that past experience that an Eddie Baur unit would be something I would like.

Love their stowaway packs; have used many for years; lightweight, packable, good quality....
Also used their water shoes, from Sams or Costco; inexpensive & good...

How so?

Take Moab or Steamboat Springs. Same manager. Same number of units at the resort, regardless of how they are divided up. Same number of housekeepers cleaning the same number of units; i.e., as far as "economies of scale" it is all just one big resort, regardless of the branding of units/buildings.

Owners do not care about all the different "branding." They simply care about getting the keycards to the unit they reserved as members in their brand (probably do not care about the branding on the keycard, as long as it opens the door to their unit).

Just attended an "Update" at Wyn Nashville, and the big push was Margaritaville. It was intreresting that there was hardly a mention of a Pres. Reserve , although Eddie Bauer was.
The sales weasels' new ploy now is to say that "you fit the algorithm for the segment of our owners we're targeting for special deals to lower your MFs". That of course involves a $74K purchase and transfer ownership to a less-desireable resort. A more slimy group does not exist. And the weasels even mention their" connection" to rent your points, since they have that scam working on the side.

The only way this matters to me is when the inventory given to other groups is more desirable than the inventory for members. Vacation Internationale gave ocean front units to Diamond resorts a long time back. This resulted in us deciding to go elsewhere to get an ocean front room. We haven't been back to the VI Sea Village even though Diamond is longer a company. The VI Mazatlan Torre did have an ocean front room for us but they tried to place us ground floor behind the restaurant before giving it up after we complained.

An example of the other side of that coin is WorldMark Steamboat Springs. Vacation Internationale was the original building there. There are no elevators in that 3 story building. Vacation Internationale owners have access only to that building.

I didn't realize that VI had a huge building at Steamboat Springs. We were there a couple of years ago with a Worldmark reservation. It was a one bed unit. We couldn't find the bedroom because when the front door is open it hides the bedroom door. It was a single story building. We called and they told us to look behind the front door. We did. The maid must have not seen the bedroom door either because the bedroom wasn't cleaned. We ended up with a Wyndham one bed unit that was way nicer than the Worldmark.

Bill

You must be thinking about a different resort. All six buildings at Steamboat Springs are three-story.

You are right. It was Pagosa Springs.

We've been there four times since it opened. If you live along the Wasatch Front, it's an easy 3-4 hour drive to be transported to a completely different world.
