Receive an email a few minutes ago offering to provide me 8X points on restaurant purchases made with my Bonvoy card between now and 6/30/2023.

Sounded good so I put in my email and Bonvoy password. Then it came back and asked for my credit card number. What? I've done these for years and have never had to enter my credit card number as they already have it, and have had it for over 25 years. Needless to say, I did not enter my credit card number. Something made me uncomfortable about all of this.

Anyone else get this email today asking for your credit card number ?

Seems like a real thing.... but its not at all restaurants, only participating restaurants.

This is even better than it seems as it appears you can link any card, not just a Bonvoy card. So presumably with a Chase Sapphire you can get 3 points for dining + 8 Bonvoy points. AKA “double dipping”. I may be wrong…

Dine Around Town is a program that has been around for years.
It has always required a CC [any CC] to link so that the transactions can be correlated to your Bonvoy account.
This promotion [8xPoints] is only for transactions until JUN-30.

And for what it's worth, my brief look at the website made it look to me like it is only certain restaurants during limited days of the week and times.

I would rather not participate in these promotions because your credit card number is automatically linked to the restaurant websites. I put out my credit card enough in doing my purchases with merchants that I trust and do regular business with but I don't want every restaurant site to have it as well.

Yes, the program has been arround for a while. Many airlines and other hotel companies offer this type of program its usually actually operated by a 3rd party called iDine, though they may have changed names. You can participate in multiple program, though a given credit card can only be registered to one at a time. Personally i started with the United dining program, and that's the one i still use. I guess the rewards are better than nothing, though in my area its mostly counter service places, and maybe a few struggling sit down establishments.

The pizza place down the street belongs so thats a no brainer, But you are unlikely to eat your way to a free flight or night in a hotel..
