Early departure penalty?

Hello.

I have another newbie question:

Do most timeshare resorts charge early departure penalties like many hotels do?

My schedule usually permits me to stay between 5~6 days for vacation but not a whole week. Since the week that I want is usually the highest demand week, I will have to make a reservation for a whole week 12 months in advance. I don't really mind throwing away one or two days by departing early as long as I don't have to pay penalty for that. Any idea? Thanks in advance.

Just to concur with the prior poster: several times we have had to leave early, and it is never a problem whatsoever.

I always call and let the resort know if I am going to arrive early, this is a good practice since some resorts won't hold the week for the entire time. If I am going to leave early, I always let the resort know a couple of days early so that they may schedule the cleaning folks to do that unit ahead of normal time, if they want.

I think it is important that one lets the resort know if they are leaving early as it allows cleaning of the unit to be done early which makes it available for an earlybird arriving. It is important when using a timeshare unit to be considerate of those following especially if you have had to wait around whilst units are still being cleaned after the checkin time.
Every bit we can do to help management look after us means when we want that early checkin or something extra hopefully someone else preceding us has thought about us too.

I have never even thought of this - we do book a week very often and stay only 5 - 6 days and it has never been a problem. We do always let them know when we are leaving so they can get the cleaning done early.

I've never heard of a timeshare resort charging for early departure.

TS are different from a hotel because the entire stay is prepaid. So if you check out early the resort does not suddenly have a unit that they have to rent at the last minute to try to recoup some lost revenue.

Similarly, when I've prepaid a hotel reservation I've never had a problem with an early departure. Again, with the prepay you've already paid for the use of the hotel room Whether or not you choose to actually occupy the room you've paid for is your business.

This past Feburary we stayed at the Manhattan Club in NYC and ended up leaving a day early. They have a 25 dollar a day service/cleaning fee and when I checked out I only had to pay for the six days not seven.

Less fees are usually incurred for other reasons too: utility surcharges, resort fees, all inclusive fees. So, if you know you won't be there the whole time, you might want to call ahead or at least tell them when checking in, so that they don't charge for a whole week.

Same thing when I checked out early from a resort that had a daily parking fee.
