I have a reservation booked by staroptions. If I ask to drop a night, does the system need to cancel the original reservation and rebook? or it can be done w/o cancellation?
I don't want to take the risk to lose the entire reservation during the process. So I figure it's better to ask here before calling customer service.
Thanks for your comments!

You can usually add a night, but to delete one it is almost always cancel and re-reserve. I usually just leave a day early since it is often not possible to get another reservation.

If you call Owner Services they can do it with you over the phone, but even they have to cancel and rebook. However, sometimes they have to refer it to inventory control, to make the new reservation. DON'T WORRY - this is completely normal and within 24-48 hours, then will send you the revised reservation.

Thanks for all the replies.
It sounds the customer support can do it safely. So the reservation is in protection during cancellation, and will not be released to general public or waitlist. Is it correct?

Personally I would just show up a day late or leave a day early rather than trust Customer Services. If arriving a day late, call the Resort itself on the arrival date to let them know you will be day late. Just tell them you missed your flight or something similar so they don't release your room...

bogey21 has good intentions, but he is not a Westin owner and has never changed a Westin reservation.
So the reservation is in protection during cancellation, and will not be released to general public or waitlist. Is it correct?.
No, it is cancelled and released and the phone Rep, tries to rebook it immediately. But if it is no longer available to rebook by the phone Rep, inventory control will issue a new reservation. The phone Rep will tell you this. Inventory Control has inventory in reserve that they can use.

Sometimes they can do it on the phone, sometimes Inventory Control does it - no worries, either way.

If it is important - you may lose Timestamp that impacts villa location.
(eg - Maui locations)
