I'll be staying in Las Vegas at the Marriott Grand Chateau. Prior to arrival MGC we will be driving to the Grand Canyon South Rim and staying a couple nights. Has anyone done that drive and can you tell me if there are any toll roads on that drive? When booking my rental car, they indicated that many toll roads are going cashless and I can get the platepass for a daily fee. I did that drive once before, but it's been many years and I don't remember if there were toll roads on the way to Grand Canyon. Once we check in at the Marriott, we'll only be using the car to get around locally, so don't want to pay for a platepass for 10 days if it's not necessary.
Thanks!

When I put in MGC to Grand Canyon Village, Google Maps says the route has tolls. But when I check the 'Avoid Tolls' option the new route is only a couple of minutes longer, so I'm guessing it's just a small section of toll road that is easily avoided and not worth the extra cost.

Or could your map application have shown you the same route because it couldn't avoid the toll? Did you look close at the map?

I don't recall any tolls, but there may be a few miles of HOV lanes that are either easily avoided, or free if there are 2+ people in the car. I wouldn't rent the transponder.

We did this in 2019, I don't remember any tolls. We had a rental car.

1) There are no toll roads.
2) There is a whole lot of "not much" between Las Vegas and Flagstaff.
3) When we drive on California toll roads, we get a bill in the mail weeks later.
4) At least you're staying a couple days. Most people want to do this as a day trip -- drive six hours to the canyon, look at it for 15 minutes, and then drive six hours back. After doing this for the first set of friends, I told subsequent visitors they could do that on their own. That's way too much windshield time for me.
5) The new bridge over the Hoover Dam has knocked a full hour off this trip. But with stops, plan on six hours.
6) If you plan on decreasing the time by driving Warp Speed, keep in mind that Arizona highway patrol are the least friendly police officers I have ever encountered.

Yup, the entrance fee for the Grand Canyon is $35 for a car.

You'll be in Williams AZ and probably Flagstaff. We've spent a lot of time in the area.

If you have time, there is a lot to see other than the large hole in the ground.

In Williams South of town is Bill Williams Wilderness via forest service roads some dirt. It has some access to some beautiful country. Another Canyon, ancient water hole (tanks), alpine forest, some bird watching areas. I really like Dara Thai now part of Twisters Cafe so you can have great Thai Food or Burger.

Flagstaff is a college town with almost anything you can want and its close to Sedona. Both have TC properties.

I like Sunset Crate and the region's dwellings and ruins. There have been people in the area for centuries and you get a sense of how it felt to live there.

Hope you enjoy!
