Where's the best place to buy more Marriott DP's on the secondary market
For a hybrid with all weeks involved, it varies a lot with the price paid on resale points and the specifics of the weeks. The PP cost of retail weeks tends to be a little cheaper than the same number of Trust points retail, for resale trust point the up front cost is likely to be slightly less PP initially but more long term. Using round numbers a Grande Ocean resale Platinum OS week right now will be roughly $16K if you bought resale then enrolled it with a 1BR Aruba OC $31K, let's round up to $50K. For a bundle all direct, add another $10K or let's say $60K for round number. So 7100 points at $7 PP or $8.50 PP in those 2 situations. Different choices will obviously adjust the numbers. St. Kitt's would be cheaper still up front by about $2 PP on the retail portion. The yearly fees on the Aruba 1 BR plus Grande Ocean week would be roughly $1500 a year cheaper. So one would need to figure the break even on the yearly fees but also consider any benefit of the underlying weeks which often offer additional "savings" if one chooses the weeks well. My view is I need a break even around or under 10 yard, preferably 7 years or less. There are so many variables that I don't think one can come up with a rule of thumb or a number of point cutoff where it goes one way or another. Certainly if one is looking at a smaller number of points, it'll be difficult to make up the difference because you need the economy of scale to combine the weeks. The more good weeks enrolled, the cheaper. But if one is looking at a lot of points then the fractional is often the best if points alone are the goal. The fees there can be 40% of the trust point fees.Is there a sweet spot on points desired where it's a wash between paying for resale points only vs the week+developer points route?
VacationPointExchange is one option. I haven't done so, others may have more information. IMO this option would work best for the occasional need and when one is just a little short. There are many ways to stretch points if needed though if you get creative.Where can you rent points?
Where can you rent points? If you don't need many you are likely better off just renting when needed.
