“Based on current knowledge, there is no evidence that pets play a significant role in spreading SARS-CoV-2 to people,” said Dr. Andy Schwartz, the Texas State Veterinarian, echoing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance.
Does that mean that there is evidence of absence or that there is absence of evidence. The language can be interpreted either way, and has been used by CDC when there is absence of evidence.

Oh wow. I do know someone who had COVID and suspected their dog got it, too. As they were recovering the dog developed a cough, got so weak it couldn't go up and down the stairs, had a suspected stroke. It's a 9 pound dog and it lost about a pound. They were feeding the dog with an eye dropper and baby bottle and felt it was near death. The vet ran all kinds of tests, but not covid. The dog has recovered, vet wasn't interested (at any time) in testing for covid.
