Hello everyone,

I would like to bring my family to a cabin in the woods for relax time, but when I search the wyndham owner site, it seems very difficult to find meaningful results. Searching the web was difficult too. I leave in the south east coast so I was hoping to find some within driving distance, but I am also opened to flying. If I can get some recommendations, I will greatly appreciate it. And many thanks in advanced.

Thank you!!

use the search bar to search for a keyword cabin. Angel Fire Resort Cabin Share 1 is the first result. There are no camping site locations, but there might be in RCI?

It's not a cabin, but the Lake Lure properties have a lot of what you would want in a camping trip?

In RCI, Presidential Resort in Chancellorsville, VA has 2BR log cabin timeshares by a lake. It's near Fredericksburg and you can do easy VA/DC day trips. It is attached to a camp ground. It has nice pools, tennis courts, putt-putt, indoor gym with basketball court. We haven't been for 5 years, but it had boat rentals, fishing, and activities such as smores, family games, wine social hour, etc.

We stayed in a glamping luxury yurt in Shenandoah Crossing for a few days last year - a Blue-Green resort in VA (we bought a trial membership via BG prior to buying into Wyndham). There's a lodge there as well as cabins, also an area for RVs. Here's a link to the resort:

I believe Blue-Green is RCI integrated so you may be able to find some availability through RCI. I've seen availability on booking.com for this resort as well. Lots of amenities there as well - nice pools, a lake, paddle boats, canoes, hiking trails, horseback riding, a country store, sports areas, etc.

I'm sure there are other "mountain" locations within RCI that you can target as well - but this is the only one we've stayed in firsthand. I would definitely go back.

Many years ago, when our kids were school-aged, we stayed at Country Hideaway at Mountain Lakes (#2085) in north Georgia. It was quite dated & rustic, but we had a really fun stay. It's not individual cabins but each condo has a wood-burning fireplace and a back porch with a picnic table & a porch swing. The resort is located on shared property with a campground so lots of camp activities are available in season. The biggest negative for us was the lack of in-room internet access. But if we want (have available vacation time) for another rustic getaway in the southeast with old-school summer-camp activities, I'd definitely consider returning here. May be worth it for you to take a look. https://www.countryhideawayresorts.com/ Keep in mind that there is a mandatory resort fee which includes all activities except the horseback riding. HTH.

ETA: FWIW, some of the original Fairfield properties (legacy, in Wyndham) feel rather like old-school, summer-camp-style resorts to me as well. Fairfield Bay, Fairfield Glade, & Lake Lure all have central recreation buildings (usually need to drive to them) with game rooms, pools, picnic areas, & lake access - very family-friendly. The buildings are usually just 2 stories so lower density and spread out, many with fireplaces and nicely updated kitchens. Other resorts may not really have lake access to speak of but... Sapphire Valley has some rooms within walking distance of the recreation building. Harbour has access to boating on the Neuse River. And not in the southeast, but Flagstaff is in an awesome region for sightseeing & golf - some rooms have their own BBQ gas grill & a private hot tub on the back deck. Anyway, for a quieter, family-friendly getaway vacation, I wouldn't give up on the legacy Wyndhams either.

do you know how someone stays at the RV part of it? Do you have to be a blue green owner? What if you're a guest of an owner?

Shenandoah BG is great! Be sure to book their cabins. Monticello (Jefferson’s estate) and Montiplier (Madison’s estate) are close by.

Yes, we actually toured both Monticello and Montpelier when we were at Shenandoah Crossing. :)

If you trade through RCI, check out Glacier Wilderness Resort in Montana and Ram’s Horn in Estes Park, Colorado. Both have individual cabins, and although not driving distance, both are worth flying to!
