Does Marriott have a fee when buying resale?

I was told by a popular timeshare broker that Marriott imposes a transfer fee on the buyer of their resale timeshare. Other resort systems do the same but the fees by Marriott are the highest.... from 2000- 5000 for a 2 bedroom type of resale.

That is true if you buy Destination Points, they charge a minimum of $3000 (i.e. $500 for every 250 points purchased).

If you buy a deeded week there is a minimal transfer charge around $100 total I think.

Marriott prices much higher than most resales, but not exorbitantly so. Most buy from Marriott for a reason. They are probably confused with points resale. Points resale has a built in membership charge of 2 dollars a point.

Unless they have increased the transfer fee very recently, it is $25.

Though there is also a $95 ROFR fee that one will have to pay for most properties. So in most cases the "transfer fee" is really $120.

IMHO $3000 fee to transfer a point ownership is exorbitant . How can you say it isn't

Yes, the resale points penalty is exorbitant and ridiculous. I don't think the resale weeks prices are exorbitant simply because most people buy from Marriott for a reason; hybrid, requal or otherwise.

BTW, what ever happened to the guaranteed buyback discussion with the new requal deal? I think that was smoke being blown

You are right, of course. I tend to forget the ROFR fee since I have never had to pay it. The ROFR fee also goes counter to my sense of fairness. Marriott has the ROFR right and they can choose to exercise it. If they don't want the week, why should the buyer have to pay them for not taking what they don't want anyway?

Nothing is guaranteed unless it is written in to the contract.
