Does being Platinum in Marriott Rewards get you anything when you trade in?

We are about to get Marriott Rewards platinum just from qualified nights from exchanges this year. I know that it gets us like 500 points on check in and maybe a random check-in gift, but I'm wondering if anyone on here has ever gotten anything else on check-in for an exchange while platinum...an upgrade, the free club breakfast you'd get at JW or anything?? Just curious.

So I was platinum premier (the level above Platinum) and at MVCI I got the same thing as before.

You do sometimes get nice things at Hotels but at Vacation Club, nothing special.

If they were going to do something special, they would probably do it for MVCI levels as that actually has an impact on them.

I travel to London a few times a year and gold and above will get you access to the executive lounge which is well worth it. It typically includes full breakfast, US and UK newspapers, beer and wine each evening with lite fare and of course the other basics such as coffee, tea and bottled water all day etc. My wife also travels to other parts of Europe and enjoys all the perks of the executive lounge.

Nobody has ever cared about my Rewards Status at a vacation club property.

What's more important is your MVCI Elite level. I always lead with that.

I use my platinum MR status to gain access to lounges when I travel to Europe.

Interesting. I figured it didn't get you much of anything at the Vacation Club properties, but I thought I'd ask.

Are the lounges only in Europe? 2 of the responses mentioned Europe, but none mentioned the US. We do sometimes stay at JWMarriott, and I figured they'd have a lounge?

It's not just the JW properties that have a concierge lounge, many Marriott hotel properties also have them. In the US they are usually just open M-F and the food is marginal. The ones in Europe might be open 7 days and have more extensive food offerings.

There is a lot more information about platinum benefits on the marriott rewards site online.

Most JW, Marriott and Renaissance hotels have a lounge. Though open M-F, on weekends they provide free breakfast at the hotel restaurant. I was just at the Renaissance in Chicago from Tuesday to Sunday. A nice benefit of Platinum is a room upgrade. Most people do not ask. It was an anniversary vacation and we were given a one bedroom suite. Given we used MR points, it was a nice upgrade. All in all, platinum (or gold) is a nice benefit that I think is worth maybe 15 or 20 dollars....usually I let price drive the hotel selection

I paid cash for 4 nights last January at Mountainside. I leaned on my Platinum status to get the room I wanted. I got it, on a sold out weekend, so in my mind it worked.

The only timeshare I have ever gotten something extra than the 500 points was at KoOlina a couple years ago. At check in I was shown options that included a number of choices including, drink mug, cabana rental for half day, and dining credit.

When we stayed in the JW Essex House in NY earlier this year the lounge was closed on Friday evening which I thought was a bit poor.

Also, as well as being open all week, lounges in the UK give you free booze but you must pay in the US (not sure about the rest of Europe).

That's gone now. In May, I got 500 points and recognition as a Platinum. :)

We were surprised to receive a bottle of wine for the Plat Arrival Gift at the Marriott's Phuket Beach Club. They didn't offer a choice of an amenity or 500 points at check in, and no points posted into our account. The stay was an II exchange this past June, and I attached our MR number.

No more choices for the past year or so. Just the standard 500 mrp.

That is really at hotels and not at the vacation club though right? That's why I started this thread really...I was wondering if that room upgrade had ever kicked in for anyone with Platinum staying at the vacation club (or if there were other benefits at the vacation club I missed).

Sorry.. diverted from your point when I read some comments relating to the hotel side. Platinum level has zero upgrade value with the Vacation Club side.

We have been platinum for years, and they almost always give us a good room location (exception Ocean Point...what's with that? ) probably because we are platinum and own 5 Marriott timeshares.

Not sure if platinum alone does it--I guess it depends on who else is there that week. If there are lots of owners, they get the preferences...

They do always acknowledge the status and give us the 500 points.

Platinum status does not do anything for MVC properties besides the 500 reward points. No room upgrades at the vacation club properties.
Does help at the hotel properties as i have had some pretty decent upgrades when staying at marriotts, jw hotels, residence inn and courtyards.

All Marriott Rewards members should receive Elite nights credit for their MVC stays.
The only other side benefit we have found from being Platinum Elite members is that when Elite nights are not automatically credited it seems easier to get them manually credited when dealing with the Platinum Elite MR reps phone line.

Marriott Manor Club - 3 weeks platinum, 2 weeks at Marriott Beachplace Towers, and 1 week at Marriott Canyon Villas
I got a half bottle wine in my room after check in at BeachPlace Towers...could be because I own there. At hotels I check for the lowest rates, usually AAA or Sr., and always get upgraded to concierge floor, usually a larger room, and treats in the lounge...but usually have to pay for booze after you use the $10 certificate.

Never received anything at MVCI resorts for being Platinum Elite other than the usual points, even room requests at home resorts are rarely honoured.

Our recent stay at Stanton South Beach in Miami was a pleasant surprise. Even after receiving our platinum gift of $10 food credit we also received a full bottle of wine, large cheese platter, fruit bowl and sweets and snacks for the kids from the manager.

Here at Ocean Pointe a member of staff delivered a bucket and spade full of treats for the kids and some tokens they could use at the resort. Not sure if everyone receives that or whether it's our rewards status or even because we weren't happy with the room configuration. Whatever the reason it was a nice touch.

We have also gotten the half bottle of wine at BeachPlace Towers as platinum members (twice in 2015), and do not own at BeachPlace. I think it is an exceeding nice gesture on their part, and we'll be back there in 2016!

I have been Platinum for several years and have had some good things happen on the hotel side but nothing at a Timeshare. The concierge room is nice and as someone mentioned early in the thread it varies considerably by location. Excellent in Manhattan, for example; not so much at the Marriott in Overland Park, KS. It is nice to have a lounge to get away to other than the hotel bar.

I once received an upgrade to a two level room at the Marriott in DT Minneapolis upon a walk in check in - no reservation. I also recall the customer service rep telling me I was bumping someone at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas when I procrastinated and there was nothing available online. Also at the Cosmo, there is a separate room to check in which is fun to be treated special, but also can save a lot of time depending upon when you check in.

I usually use the points when someone - a friend, a family member - needs a room. One day, I will take that trip around the world.
