I know you can renew a few months in advance of expiration. Ours expires in July 2025 and we are going to London and South Africa in Sept 2025.

United Chase card has increased the amount to $120 to match the Global Entry increase. Mine expires 10/25/2025. I am going to start the renewal process on 10/25 of this year. You can start the process 1 year from card expiration.
Price for Global Entry has gone up to $120, so $20 increase. Price of NEXUS has gone way up. It was $50 and you got GE included for no additional charge. I think they wised up and now the two NEXUS and GE are both $120. So HUGE increase for NEXUS but now equal in price to GE, at $120. Best to check if any of your credit cards cover it. Several travel ones cover NEXUS or GE now.
From their website:I renewed a few years ago. At the time, if you applied for renewal before expiration, your valid period would be extended for a healthy period. So even if it takes a little longer, you should still be eligible for the return lane.
It would be worth double checking that, but I think you should be good.
The only time I have ever needed to show my Global Entry card has been when coming back through the Vancouver airport. We needed to show it to get into the expedited line.We did the renewal process on line, and both of us were approved within 3 days. I just did mine in August, so that’s a recent experience. No interview was required for either of us. It was 7-10 days before we got our cards, though we have never actually needed or used them.
I had the exact same experience, just a couple of months ago. Applied online and it came back lightning fast.2 days over a weekend for my renewal. I was surprised.
This is the second renewal I've had. I have not had to have an interview with either one. When I first applied I scheduled the interview at ABQ the day I had a flight out of there. Whole process was very smooth. I got the email, with my KTN a few minutes after I had gone through Security and was waiting for my flight. I was able to use it for my return flight even though I didn't have card yet.Had my interview for my renewal on oct 11.
Got the email I was approved 10 mins after my interview was over.
Got my new card in the mail, 11 days after my interview, and that included 2 weeks ends and Columbus day (Thanksgiving in Canada).
So pretty quick.

We have had to use our GE cards when coming back into the U.S. from the Vancouver airport. We just needed it to get into the line for the GE kiosks. Maybe it's changed since the last time I few that route. I always carry mine when I travel just in case.Global Entry you can use without the card, NEXUS you have to have the card to use the lanes. I have to reinterview both on my GE renewal and now again on my NEXUS renewal. I asked why some did and other didn't he said it was random, and they can see NO pattern as to who gets pick to reinterview and who doesn't.

My experiences may have been when GE was kind of new and they wanted to be sure people were in the line who were supposed to be. However, if you don't have GE and get up to the kiosks you wouldn't be able to use them so you'd have to turn around and get into the other line (which as I recall was usually pretty long).I just came though YVR airport on Wednesday, no card needed for GE. Just use the kiosk.
