I have a deposit for a 2 bedroom BPT that I placed an ongoing request for Harborside at Atlantis and Aruba Surfclub using a 6 week window in the summer for the year 2013. (starting July 4th) Now I know that it is early because most of the deposits for 2013 haven't happened yet but I wanted to know if these trade requests seem doable? Also, our first choice is Harborside because of the cost of airfare, so if the trade comes in for Aruba, and it is still early, should I pass and wait a little or would that be unwise? I would love to throw Hawaii in the mix but airfare for a party of 5 from the east coast is too expensive right now. (for some reason Baltimore to Aruba isn't terrible.) thanks!!

Harbourside is very hard because of the Starwood Priority in II. You have a far better chance of getting Aruba and would think that would come through fairly quickly. You may want to remove it all together and just look at Harbourside first, then when you get to a certain date add Aruba back in. I would say you would still be successful with Aruba if you added it to your request at the nine month mark.

Harborside will be a tough get especially during the summer. But you have time on your side so, I would agree just put in a request for harborside and maybe something will fall through the cracks. I specifically bought a cheap 1br. EOY starwood unit to get into Harborside and some of the other starwood locations. Our first two trades were into Harborside and into Westin in Kauai, both 2brs. so well worth the cost.

I think you have 0% chance of getting Harborside during July or August. You might as well save the money for an international exchange and just do a Marriott to Marriott to Aruba. Starwood controls the deposits and has not deposited any summer weeks. They do deposit Sept-January (non holiday) weeks and very few of those make it past Starwood priority.

Thanks everyone! Seems like Harborside will be too tough and I should stick with Aruba and this way keep an eye on airfare.

Since I already paid the international fee for the non Marriott request, will II refund the difference once the trade for Aruba comes through? St. Kitts was another possibility but the airfare was almost as much as Hawaii. Thanks for the input!

They won't refund the trade fee unless you cancel the whole request now and set up a new search with only Marriotts.

Aruba trade will be real easy if you only need 1BR. 2BR shouldn't be hard, but maybe takes longer. You should include the other Aruba property in your search. Many people consider it to be the better of the two even though it is older.

Matt, is the other property Ocean Club or a non Marriott Aruba property. The reason that I did not put in the request for Ocean Club was the lazy river for the kids (ok...us too;) and the washer and dryer in the rooms at Surf Club.

It's the Ocean Club. And, like you (and me ;) ), there are many who prefer the SC because of the Lazy River and the washer/dryer, but both properties are lovely. As long as you have a good BPT week you should get a trade into a 2BR since it is so far in advance, but if you don't match by the 9 month mark or so I would suggest requesting both properties, because the summer months are in high demand and a lot of owners lock off because the Aruba weeks are such good traders.

While I love the Lazy River, taking the float into the ocean is lovely too, since the water is so gorgeous there.

A two bedroom in Aruba will come through 100%, just be patient.

Harborside in the summer - zero chance, especially with a non-Starwood week.

It is BeachPlace at Presidents week...so that should be a good week...

Thanks everyone for their help...I just called II, got my fee refunded and will redo the request with just Aruba....
