Resorts Owned
Bluegreenpoints; Hotel Blake (Chicago), Ellis Square (Savannah), Christmas Mtn (Wisconsin Dells), Outrigger Beach Club (FL)
I have been a Bluegreen owner for 8 years, mostly happily, using points that I have accumulated both from developer purchases and third-party (secondary market) purchases.
So, for the dfirst time, I decided to try to reserve my week at a Bluegreen resort for the Priority Use Period (PUP). Priority use must be reserved by a telephone call to Bluegreen Customer Services from no more than 13 but no fewer than 11 months before the usage, and it is exactly the unit and week that is specified on your Vacation Ownership contract.

So it's 13 months before my time at the resort, I make the call, and the helpful person tells me that I have 3 days that I can use, not a week.
This is a surprise. My transfer document says "this resort, this unit, week xx" (data changed to protect the innocent).

This particular contract was a "Biennial Odd" points allocation (points allocated every odd numbered year).
Now I have other contracts that are "Biennnial", but (after discussion with BG) are full week usage (every other year).
So "Biennial" doesn't automatically mean a partial week.

So it turns out, whatever time at a Bluegreen resort backs up your "Vacation Ownership Interest" points, it may or may not be a full week. Depends on what the contract says.

In my case, what I acquired in the secondary market is a contract that specifies "Sunday Monday & Tuesday of Week XX Every Odd Numbered Year" for X,xxx points.

Turns out also that some of the real estate unit/week developer-bought are partial week ownership, too.

So next time you have a chance to talk to the (very helpful) front line people at Bluegreen, have a list of what you own (contract number(s) and account(s) are best, rather than resort/week) and ask whether they are coded as (F) for Full week, or something else, and if something else, what are they coded for?

Have I been stupid for 8 years in not knowing exactly what I owned, and am now only discovering through PUP usage, and is this common knowledge in the Bluegreen or timeshare community, or is usage of PUP so uncommon that it simply hasn't been talked about?

I can't believe that I'm the first person to have had this issue....

As an owner for a year now...and as we have talked with other owners, yes points seem to be the focus and not the actual property contracted time.

The few times we have purchased additional developer points, we ask for all these details before we sign any paperwork...mainly just to know exactly what we are purchasing.

Yes, many of their deeds sold are of a partial week type. Some weekdays, others weekends. Some just a number of weekdays. some PUPS are not really useable, but a lot of resale purchasers dont care, they just want the cheap resale points. The codes by the week will determine if they are full week, or partial, though you may have to search or call BG to find out exactly what the partial codes cover.

Owner for 14 years, I would say 90-95% of owners do not know what a PUP is and your entitlement to reserve it.
Once I knew, all my resale purchases have been very desirable weeks at La Cabana during a time I wanted to visit.
