I have had my Kitchenaid mixer sit for 9 years and Packed it when I moved twice. I never used it but kept it as it was a housewarming gift from my departed husbands first cousin when I moved into my first renovated home alone. Normally if I don’t use something in a year I give it away.

On top of it, my current other half purchase some attachments as gifts trying to entice me to use it.

So the other week I finally used it, using the shredding attachment for my cauliflower. It was so easy. Today I used my attachment to peel apples. I normally peel by hand. Why did I wait so long? It was so fast.

Now thinking what other attachments might be great. Do you have any favorites?

I do not have any attachments for mine but think a meat grinder and pasta maker are both I would like to try. I could see where I would use the slicer grater more than my food processor if I left the mixer on the counter

I put mine on the counter. I have a narrow counter on the side of my refrigerator and it really didn’t work for anything else.

We have a meat grinding attachment. Dh uses that to grind up chicken breasts.

We use all of our attachments for the mixer. I have the apple peeler, and it is the best. I gave away my Pampered Chef one after Rick bought me the attachment. Pampered Chef's was okay, but this one is incredible. I have the meat grinder and the slicer, which is great for coleslaw in large quantities. The meat grinder is good for grinding ham for ham salad sandwiches after Easter.

I sold all my attachments on eBay over the span of 18 months. The last of the pieces, the dough hooks, shipped to Puerto Rico in May. Of course then I realized I did actually use the meat grinder to grind walnuts for kifli, of course I haven't made kifli in the ten years we've been in this house.

Don't have one. I have a cheap food prcessor I got on Amazon that I really got to grade and slice cheeses ahead of time and store in containers, but since moving I have not used it as I have no room to store the cheeses in containers in my fridge..

I've been looking at getting the meat grinder one to grind my own beef so I can control what cuts are in my burgers. Kitchenaid sells 2 - one plastic and one metal. Does anyone who has the plastic one think it holds up well? Its half as much...

I haven't shredded cheese or cabbage since pre-shredded was "invented", and I'm sure I was late to the game noticing that. Pioneer Woman made a comment on a show I saw yesterday about shredding and shredding and shredding cheese for something she was making for a large party and I thought Honey, life is just too short..., especially now when you can buy "rustic shred".

I had also bought those large chunks of Asiago and Romano cheeses at Sams Club and then grated and sliced them myself as so much cheaper. You pay a lot more for convenience.

Now we are just using the hand grater when we want cheese on our food.

I find a food processor to be much easier and convenient for many of these tasks than a Kitchen Aid stand mixer. Plus a food processor is easier to put in / out of cabinet than the heavy mixer.

Pro tip: I like to slice meat very thin using the slicer disk for stir fry. If the meat is frozen for about 30 minutes before slicing, it helps get really nice perfect slices. Same idea with shredding soft cheese like mozzarella.

I am on my third one, I love Kitchenaids. First one was too small, so I bought a second one. The second one leaked oil, something happened to it when we moved. I thought about getting it fixed, but because we have slightly higher counters here, it didn’t fit underneath the upper cabinet bottom molding. So I donated it and got number three, which fits under the counter.

I used to use the Meat grinder attachment all the time, but it’s spattered blood everywhere so at some point I got tired of cleaning up the mess. I bought the spiralizer attachment last year, and I’m getting my moneys worth out of it. I really like it. I’ve looked at the pasta attachment, but I keep walking away because we don’t want to eat too much pasta and when you make homemade pasta, OMG, you could just eat it every day.

I have my eye on the sheet cutter. I would use it for sure. I already have the spiralizer, in the same box as the apple peeler. I have the pasta attachments too, never used them. My other half wants to know when I am making fresh pasta.

I have the shredding attachment and haven't used it in years. I find myself reaching for my Salad Shooter to shred vegetables and cheese. I don't buy preshreded cheese.

We have a kitchen aid mixer but use it only as a mixer. I also love our Salad Shooter and use it several times a week to do things like shred carrots to throw on a salad.

The problem with the pre shredded cheese is most add some sort of starch to keep the cheese from sticking together. This can cause problems in some recipes and I would rather get my carbs from Mashed potatoes.

I do keep preshredded cheese for DH because he only microwaves...so he uses it in sandwiches, tacos etc. I use for things where I am not concerned with it messing up a recipe.

I have that same small space beside the fridge but keep jars of spices, a container for all my wood spoons/spatulas & spoon rest ( which I never really use but maybe some say). I don't think the space is wide enough to really work on so I would have to move it anyways to work. My mom had a special cabinet built for hers... It had a shelf that lifted up and made the mixer counter height and when she was done she just dropped it down and back into the cabinet. like this:

The worst thing, and the best thing, about a Kitchen-Aid is its weight and those cabinets mean that you never have to lift it again. When that set-up first came out it was available only from cabinet suppliers and the price was ridiculous. Home Depot, Lowe's, Amazon, Wayfair etc now sell generic hydraulic lifts that can be retro-fitted to existing cabinets - still not inexpensive but much less than when first introduced. It and the pullout trash/recycle bins are the best "extras" we included in our kitchen remodel!

Another extra for those who are serious bakers - we had a custom pull out drawer built next to our oven for our very large, heavy baking stone

My Green Apple Kitchenaid sits on the counter full time. It gets a lot of use and based upon this thread I just bought the shredding/slicing/grating attachment. Hopefully it will make my rarely used food processor a thing of the past.

A friend gave me her meat grinder attachment and I have only used it once (to make beets into beet relish at Easter) but I may become inspired to use it more often although we eating less and less meat these days.

I never heard of the sheet cutter so I looked it up. Wow, very cool, I need to find recipes so I can justify buying one.

Homemade pasta is easy to make. It’s the manual rolling that is a pain, that’s the allure of the motorized attachment. But as I said, it is more addictive than nicotine...

I just ordered the sheet attachment. I can see making sheets for zucchini lasagna and cucumber sushi. It will be great if it works on eggplant but not sure it will.

We have two kitchenaid mixers (from combining households) Two different sizes which I use depending on what I'm making. I have the food processor attachment(I killed a regular food processor grating cheese) including the cubing blade. LOVE IT! Great for cubing potatoes for soup. I also shred brussel sprouts, super quick and very thin. I have the spiralizer attachments. I have the meat grinder, fruit and vegetable strainer and slicer/shredder which all came as a set. I haven't used the grinder in a while, but the fruit and veg strainer works great for eliminating the seeds when making tomato sauce. Haven't used the slicer shredder since the food processor attachment arrived. I also have the mixing blade with the rubber edge for scraping the bowl when mixing cake. And the smaller bowls.

I haven't gotten the pasta maker (or the ravioli maker) because I read they can be a nightmare to clean. Plus if I made homemade pasta once that would probably be all I would ever want in the future. I don't want to set myself up for that.:ROFLMAO:

(I have a very large pantry;))
