My other half purchased a Fresh Roast SR800 Coffee roaster machine and we have been experimenting. So far misses but I think we had bad beans purchased from Amazon.

We will consider a different brand machine too as we still can return this one.

Any tips from your experience on process, bean purchase or anything else would help.

I don't have one, but I came soooooo close to buying one. A few years back dh and I took a class at a local kitchen store on coffee roasting. There were a couple of reasons I didn't end up buying a roaster. One was where to get beans. In our area the only place was at that kitchen store. But, the biggest reason was a statement made by the man who gave the class. He said one you started roasting, and drinking, your own coffee you'd never be happy with coffee out again. Since I enjoy coffee out I decided I didn't want to start doing my own roasting.

A few weeks ago I bought a Rancilio Silvia espresso machine and decent grinder, and I have been trying to roast beans in a wok on our gas stove. It’s fun and strangely satisfying, but between learning the espresso machine and the roasting I’m only getting decent shots 50% of the time. I’d love to hear if anybody has success with a roasting machine!

I drink tea, but my husband makes peculator coffee on the stove with a $25 Farberware pot with Folgers every morning.
