A friend of mine purchased into Diamond. First they bought points at the Polo Club, then added points while at an AZ site, and finally were moved into the Hawaii Collection on a visit there.
Due to medical treatments, they can not travel to any of the collection resorts, and find they can't get reservations at any other property near them ( coastal CA ) even when units are sitting vacant, and they are Hilton affiliates.

Simply, they can't use this "investment" and yet they still must pay the maintenance fees. They attended a meeting and were told what they have is worthless, but they could pay to upgrade into HGVC. First, due to medical expenses, they simply don't have the funds to do that, and of course, they can't travel to timeshares anywhere except locally, and I was informed by a property manager at one of the sites last week that HGVC people can't even get reservations there except for very low reservation times, if then.

After a long discussion yesterday, I offered to try and get some answers for them. My question is simple. Is there ANY way to dispose of a DRI/HVC Hawaii Collection and terminate the maintenance fees?

Thanks for any suggestions you may have based on actual experiences with Hilton.

If the Contract(s) are paid off and Maintenance Fees are up to date they can work with DRI (Now HGV) to surrender them. There is a Fee per Contract.

You truly need to find out what they actually own now. DRI had a tendency to just add additional contracts instead of replacing existing ones with new ones.

Their surrender program has a fee per contract. Multiple contacts can add up fast. They have also currently paused the surrender program. Best to have them call to ask about it. If all is paid in full.
