Where do you suggest staying for 2 nights near Disneyland? We are taking our grandkids -- ages 6 months, 3 years and 5 years and their parents. We want to be able to go to back to hotel in the afternoon for naps.

There are at least two timeshares nearby. Probably a dozen or more hotels/motels, not counting Disney within walking or shuttle distance. In fact, I think I just saw some 3/2 on Ebay with tickets! When are you going? For how long? Are you used to lavish surroundings or do you just want a bed to flop? Maybe a continental breakfast if you get up early enough?

Nightnurse,

Good questions. We need a clean place to crash for 2 nights. A warm swimming pool would be nice. Light breakfast included, would be easier with little kids than going to restaurant for breakfast. Lccation is important as we want to be able to nap (at least the grandparents will need to nap) in the afternoon before going back in the evening.

I mentioned it before in another thread, but there is a Residence Inn, that fits your bill. When I say it was a short walk to Disneyland, I mean it. You do less walking from the Inn to the park (1/4 maybe, without having to tranverse any large highway, except the one ringt in front of the park) than you would if you drove to the park and walked from the parking area to the trams to the park.

It had a small heated pool, and does serve, what I think is a pretty nice breakfast, with something usually hot, and the usual cereal, yogurt, muffins thing. I got a small 2 bdrm suite for $149/night in Dec 2004.

I would definately, and plan on, going back in the future.

Regards.
Joe

Of course there are 3 Disneyland hotels immediately adjacent (Disneyland Hotel, Pan Pacific and Grand Californian, the latter being directly connected to California Adventure, the other two by monorail and tram) but they are all quite expensive. I think they may have packages that include tickets to the park. Main advantage is proximaty, easy access for naps and a dip in the pool, but as I said, expensive (I think the price is $375 per room!). There are at least a dozen hotels on Harbor Blvd., including a Hilton and a Hyatt if you have points you can cash, and a few others on Katella, both streets are the main cross streets to Disneyland, and most, if not all, will have shuttle bus to and from the park.

There are 2 best westerns across from the park. I think the one called "Park Place Inn" is right across the street. There is a restaurant right next door, for which you receive a coupon for all room guests each day for a simple buffet. There is also a pool. If you're lucky, you'll get a room from which you can watch the fireworks at the park. It is closer to walk from the hotels directly across the street from the park than to walk from the Disneyland Hotel or Pierpont Inn. There is a small fridge in each room.

There is also the Ramada Main Gate (I think it 's still a Ramada). It's not the nicest place in the world, but it's very inexpensive and convenient. I like the Best Western the best.

Good luck with picking a place and have fun at Disneyland!

Nothing beats staying "in the park" at one of the Disney hotels. But, as mentioned, they are expensive. I don't remember if the early entry is limited to the 'in the park' hotels at Disneyland or not. If it is, that's a pretty good benefit and worth considering. You can ride Dumbo a few times without waiting on much of a line with early entry. Plus, I think each inside hotel has some sort of character breakfast, lunch and/or dinner, and the kids love those. (Especially if you can't get a rez for one of them inside the park.)

Last time I was there, the Marriott had one of the better shuttles. It was a city operated shuttle (looks like a trolley), and drops off and picks up inside the gate. Many of the hotels use the drop-off area right outside the gate (and it really does make a difference) and many of them make several stops.

I've also stayed at the Hyatt. It's ok, but not as good as the Marriott. The Hyatt's shuttle was a full-sized tour bus, meaning it takes a long time to load and unload and, as I recall, it also stops at a hotel accross the street from the Hyatt. And when it's full, it goes. You wait 20 - 30 minutes for the next one, which can happen at opening time and after the fireworks.

My info is a couple of years old, so, you might want to verify it with the properties to see if any of it has changed.

I'm going to Disneyland in March with my younger dd. We debated staying on the Disney property and decided not to due to the cost. I ended up reserving at the Candy Cane Inn based on reviews from tripadvisor.com. I booked the package through Disney that included the park tickets as well.

I've read that many people feel that the Howard Johnson is best value for location, hotel amenities and price. It very close to the park entrance and has two nice pools. You can easily walk or shuttle to the park.

We haven't stayed there in >10 years. But they use to have a free breakfast for kid when adult buys at the restaurant on the property.

I think most of the hotels in the area provide some kind of free breakfast. My older dd just got back from Disneyland. She went with her high school marching band (they participated in the Disneyland parade). They stayed at the Tropicana, which looks like it's right across the street. She said they provided breakfast at the hotel.

The Carousel Inn just outside the Main Gate is an excellent option.
We wil stay there again on 1/29.
A standard room is $79-$99, depending on the night.

We go back to the room so our two year old can nap. Very short walk. It's shorter than the Disney Parking lot!

They also have a rooftop pool.

Here is their web.

I've stayed at the Park Place Inn! I think I first ran across it in one of those coupon books you find at McDonalds. Not totally bad and the price was right.

The Candy Cane is a delightful place. We have stayed their twice, you can't get any closer, it backs right onto the park. It has been there a very long time but is kept in great shape. It is a motel style but lovely landscaping. The pool is warm and has a kiddie pool and lovely hot tub in a gazebo.

The continental breakfast is very good.

Check out the reviews on tripadvisor. It is consistantly rated at the top.

Glad to hear that since that's where we'll be staying in March. I did use the reviews in tripadvisor to help me make a decision.
