Just finished an amazing 3 day trip to Universal. We flew from Boston to Ft. Meyers where we stayed with my parents in Naples for a few days, then we drove to Orlando. Wow, the traffic on I-4 was just insane! I already have an OGS through II for a Disney and Universal trip next year. What is the best way to avoid I-4 when traveling from the Disney Springs area to Universal?

If you have a GPS in your vehicle, choose the "no Highways" or avoid I-4 options. It should take you up S. Apopka Vineland Rd, on the West side of I-4. You can also see the route on Google maps by putting one of the locations in, hitting 'directions' then add the other address. Click on 'Options" and check the box "avoid highways". There are lots of back roads all around the Disney / Universal / International Airport areas and even though you'll hit a few traffic lights you will be moving and take about the same time to get places. We try to avoid I-4 (& toll roads) in the whole Orlando area like the plague!

... It should take you up S. Apopka Vineland Rd [a/k/a SR 535], on the West side of I-4. ...
That option is listed by Google Maps, but there is one not listed...
Drive N. up Palm Pkwy / Turkey Lake Rd, which hugs the W-side of I-4.
On either, you'll want to turn R at Hollywood Way once you get there.

We usually take the route above, Palm Parkway/Turkey Lake Rd. Quick and easy. We hate I-4 and will always avoid it whenever possible.
