Disappointed in RCI

My New Year's resolution is to never use RCI for a trade again. Last week I called to book a week in RCI points (not TPU's) on the Outer Banks that slotted in nicely between two other weeks I had already booked and to deposit my 2016 home resort that is in RCI points so that I wouldn't have to borrow from 2017. Well the rep ended up trying to deposit another timeshare resort of mine that is not even in points. The deposit failed of course and so the Outer Banks week I had been told was booked, ended up being reposted and someone else got it.

Follow up emails did no good and they showed little interest in helping me. It was a frustrating experience and I believe that many there do not have a good knowledge of their system, the person that messed my trade up even told me that the exchange fee would be $59 (I wish) for the weeks exchange.

However, I love the sales, Last Calls and Instant Exchanges. So I am stuck with RCI, but no more exchanges.

I think you need to call back and work your way up to a Supervisor, and ask that they fix what the other person screwed up. They can set up a search so when another of those OB weeks turns up, you'll get your exchange. In my experience, not all RCI VCs are created equal. Some are great, and some are below trainee status.

I had an experience several years ago where months after I'd made an exchange, I got a message that my exchange had been "withdrawn" and the week I had taken was no longer available. Several phone calls later, it turned out (if you believe what they said) that the person who deposited the week had defaulted on paying maintenance fees, and the account had been closed. RCI told me I'd have to take a different week instead.

I pitched a fit, complained that I already had airfare purchased, and so forth (which was true), and they said they'd see what they could do for me. It took about two weeks, but they called back, they had another exact week for me, and I got my exchange. I didn't have to do anything - they did it all behind the scenes. It can't hurt for you to try, anyway.

Good luck!

I ALWAYS use the website, I never ever call rci unless I really have to. You can deposit online and do anything else you need.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying it's your fault - because it's not. But the website is actually working ok.

Regards

A few in S and VA, a single resort in NC, MD, PA, and UT, plus Jamaica and the Bahamas
Many RCI points auto-deposit at 12 months prior. Some require you to prepay the MF's before you can deposit them. You can hold a resort without the points in your account. Next time I would put a hold on what you want, call if you have to do the deposit, verify online that it was deposited correctly and then completely the transaction yourself.

Was the OBX week a 2017 one? I have that one on hold and haven't made up my mind so you might see it back in inventory when RCI is back up tonight.

I had originally planned on using my 2016 home resort that is in RCI points but when I tried to book the Outer Banks resort with my points on the internet, the web site said I would be using 2017 points. Not wanting to go that far in the hole, I decided to deposit my home resort and not use it this year. I always try to book things myself but I thought I would let the "Pros" do it as it would be a two step operation, deposit my 2016 year and using those points to book the week I already had on hold. But neither one happened.
