I had a complicated situation. I got an studio AC from II because previous owner had 1b room left for me. II issued me an studio AC instead of transferring 1 b room from his account to my account.

Now, I asked to II if I can pay (or free) for upgrade (from studio AC to 1 bd because I have 6 people) for MSE request, but II says "NO" even though they have stocks. II said that it is not possible to have upgraded because I have an studio AC.

I heard lots of people got upgraded, from studio to 1b room or from 1b to 2b, from this board. But II person said that it is impossible now. Is that right? Also, I am very disappointed with II the way they handle my phone every time:mad: . I feel very embarrassing after talking to II. I wish there is another one for Marriott exchange.

I think you are talking about two different things.

The upgrades that you are referring to that others have reported here generally relate to exchanges they make within Flex time (the last 59 days before travel). Those also relate to exchanges of the weeks that they own.

Technically, you are not using a week that you own to request an exchange. You are using what II calls a "replacement week", because the owner's week could not be transferred to your account. I also don't know if you are trying to request an upgraded exchange outside of the Flex window.

II's rules don't permit members to request ongoing exchange requests outside of the Flex period for upgrades to larger units, whether with a week you own or a replacement week, such as you have.

I'm assuming your replacement week AC shows up online in your II account. If so, do some online searches within the 59-day window (e.g., do a search today with requested dates not later than about January 31, 2009) and see if some 1BR and 2BR weeks come up. Search at a winter low-season area such as Hilton Head. If some 1BR and 2BR weeks show up, you'll know you can confirm an exchange to an upgraded week.

Also, next time you buy a timeshare and there is a banked week with II, ask if that's the only timeshare the owner has in the II account. If so, II can transfer the actual banked week (essentially the entire II account) into your account, giving you the same banked week that the owner had.

This sounds complicated since you're talking about something that was transferred from someone else's account.

Usually, in II to go from a studio to something larger, you'd need to do that during flexchange (59 days of check-in). And the inventory would have to be there to do that. Also, you can't put 6 people in a 1 bedroom. You'd need a 2 bedroom for that many people since you're over the occupancy of a 1 bedroom.
