Dilemma about Surf Club reservation

I just found out that I might be a grandmother the very day we were to stay at the Aruba Surf Club. (July 4th)

Here is my problem: I already bought the airline tickets. Insurance does not cover pregnancy. :( I will be out $750 in airline tickets.

Secondly, the unit I traded for this 1 bedroom must be reused quickly - not long enough for me redeposit it and plan to go somewhere else next year.

Can I try to exchange with someone - my July 4th week for one of their future weeks?

What would you suggest? Thanks.

If you cancel the unit you will receive a Cancellation Replacement week good for one year from the date of the cancellation. Ideally you want to cancel more than 60 days prior to check in to avoid any restrictions on the Replacement week. If you were to cancel in the beginning of May you would have until May of 2010 to travel on another exchange.

II rules prohibit the trading or renting of an exchange. However you could try to find someone you know who you could give the unit to.

I concur. You won't get the week back that you used for the exchange. Take advantage of the replacement week.

Also, you probably aren't out the full $750. With most airlines, you can cancel and the amount you paid, less a cancellation fee (likely $200 per ticket), can be used to purchase other tickets on the same airline to any destination for travel within a year of the date you bought the tickets.

and- congrats! Aggravating as the timing may be, you'll surely remember the birth of your grandchild more than the fun on your trip (even if it's a really great trip).

YES! Congrats! :cheer: Get the replacement week and rebook as a celebration. Take the picture of your new grandchild. Just chalk the 200 cancellation in airline (or whatever) to life happens and don't fret about it.

I have to say this is an amazing coincidence. Our daughter is due THE SAME DAY. Its our first grand child. We were on pins and needles for several weeks waiting for the due date. We knew it would be close, but our Surf Club week is the second week of June. We had tickets purchased already, and were fortunate it worked out.
