Digital Camera Kodak Z-7590: HELP !!!

I have three digital cameras.
One of them, Kodak Z-7590, is beginning to test my tolerance.
In the beginning, everything worked fine.
Now it takes around 45-seconds after I turn the bugger "on"
before it's "ready" to take pictures !!!

I have two batteries and using either battery gives the same s-l-o-w results.
I make sure that the batteries are fully charged before using them.

The batteries I use can be charged at any time, not only when they're fully discharged.

My guess is the problem lies with the charging unit and/or the camera itself.

Any suggestions ???
Repair (which might cost an arm and a leg)
Toss it and get another one ?

My OLDEST camera, Nikon Cool Pix 885 works like a charm !!!
Another piece of junk is my Polaroid digital camera.

Aaaarrrrrch !!! :wall:

Just a wild guess, but try taking out the external memory card if you have one. Maybe there is a corrupt photo file that it is trying to load. Another option would be to see if there is a firmware upgrade for this model. Good luck. Unless it is a very expensive camera the cost of repair is usually almost as much as the cost of a new one. Is it still under warranty? If so, send it in.

Try using reg. batteries, instead of rechargeable.....
The DX 7590 uses a special lithium ion battery that, as far as I know, can only be bought through Kodak. Though I might be wrong as I haven't needed to get a new one yet.
There is nothing in the quick start troubleshooting guide that mentions slow boot up. Have you checked in your manual? It might give you more info and might tell you how to restore to factory settings.
Try using a pencil eraser to clean the connections on the batteries and in the camera (careful). Be sure to get rid of all the eraser particles.

I experiment and found that the length of the "delay" is in direct correlation to the number of pictures, stored on a memory card.

So, no more 2GB or even 1GB cards for me !!!
From now on, I'm sticking with 512MB cards.
And not storing more than 100 pic's before swapping cards.
Seems like a pain in the a**, don't you think ???

Hmmmmm... is that common to all digital cameras ???
Or just my particular camera or Kodak in general ???

Another option would be to see if there is a firmware upgrade for this model. Good luck.

My camera's firmware is "1.000"
If there's a later version, how in creation would I load it into my camera ???

Thanks, Doug

True, I have no choice but to use the battery designed for my camera.

Another thing I discovered AFTER I purchased my camera,
you have to buy an adapter ring, to use a lens filter.

There is no filter size compatible with this camera.
Why anyone would design such a lens size, is beyond my level of comprehension !!!
Must be another Dr Frankenstein working at Kodak.

Tsk, Tsk !!!

You'd be surprised what you can find on eBay. Check here.

Granted, these are cheap knock-off batteries. But I got a couple of cheap knock-offs for my Canon SD700IS and SD880, and they've been working just fine. For 1/10th the cost, it may be worth trying out.

Thanks, I placed a bid on a battery.

I checked the Kodak site and I do not see a firmware update available. Only the software program.

It must be your camera. Our dx7590 works fine with a 1G card in it and it's a slightly older camera. Besides, unless you go to ebay or such, the smallest you are going to find is 1G.
We have a corrupt 256M chip that still has two years left on the warranty, but the manuf. won't even talk to us because the chip is not made any more.

I had a 2GB card in my camera on vacation.
Took around 300 pictures.
That's when it takes 45-seconds to "boot up".

I formatted the card (deletes all pictures) and it boots up in no time at all.

Stuck in another card with around 100 pictures on it and it takes around 15-seconds to boot up !!!

Much too long !!!!

Aren't you glad it's still "under warranty" ? :D

Funny you mention Kodak batteries as not lasting, I have a Canon A710IS and normally use Energizer rechargeable batteries and get a couple hundred shots before they need recharging. One day in Walmart, I noticed Kodak rechargeables were 2 bucks less, so I bought a 4 pack. What a total waste. After a full charge they didn't even last 10 pictures and the battery sign was flashing. I tried a couple more times with the same results. I called Kodak and requested they send me a new package free because these were defective. Their response was "no way". They recommended I buy another package of Kodak batteries and compare them. Get lost Kodak. At that moment I decided never to buy anything with the name Kodak on it.
I use a 2 gig card and can have 2 or 3 hundred pictures on the card and the camera boots in a couple seconds, so my guess is it's your Kodak camera that's causing the delay when the card has a lot of pictures as mentioned above. Another reason not to buy Kodak.

I can NOT use standard (AA or AAA) batteries in my camera.
My camera requires a rectangular-shaped battery.
Someone else may have mentioned Kodak batteries as not lasting, Not me

At one time Kodak was a reputable brand for cameras.
No more !!!!

It's like TVs, Automobiles, digital phones, video recorders, etc.
Don't buy American !!!

My next car, camera, etc. will be "foreign".
