I wonder if they factor in laws of aerodynamics, physics etc. to calculate the whole thing? (As in using scientists to help with the planning.)

Me, too!! I was really fearful for the guy just watching it all live on tv. There was no safety net that I could see. It was an interesting event--they had computer-generated scenarios showing what would happen to him if he miscalculated each part of the jump.
They also reported all the injuries he has received in his motorcycle career. I think he has broken just about all his major bones. He is one gutsy guy (or maybe deranged depending on your perspective!)
That's pretty impressive. This from the place where another (ahem) idiot attempted to jump a mile-wide (Snake River) canyon while dragging his parachute. Didn't work so good.
