I picked up the 6000 Embarc points for free, paid the $250 transfer fee.

The process went fairly quick once I filled out the form with the previous owner. Initially someone else was first but apparently backed out so it came to me, that may be why it went quickly, original person got frustrated with delay.

Timeline:
Filled in and submitted transfer form.
2 weeks later got the call to pay transfer fee, ownership transferred same day.
3 weeks later got a call from HGVC and got my new account set up.

Update: I tried to deposit 2025 points into DEX today, couldn't do it, the message said to call support. I called in and she couldn't do it either. She opened a ticket with IT, apparently there is another step to configure my account for DEX. I have to try next week, why does it take a week?

Don't deposit unless it's your only choice. You can book directly with your points. Once deposited, upgrades are expensive (1 fee per tier so if you go to 5, it's double the fee) and you lose the points if you downgrade...

I forgot about this thread - I picked up a Gaitlinburg Town Square, a Fox Run, a Bali Hai (I think... Wyndham is soooo slow, I started in maybe May?) and a GrandView points. TBH, I might be thinking about trying to rehome my HGVC as it's not that usable for me and I've done many of the resorts now, and the one I might want to go back to is hard to book. I guess we'll see if I start collecting points or not.
