I paid $20,000 for 5000 pts at Orlando - Tuscany. 2 bedroom.
Rec'd 7000 bonus points. Also, $850 maintenance fee/yr.

My paperwork says nothing about silver gold rooms. What
is that?

Considering that you could have purchased 5000 annual HGVC points at one of the affiliate resorts on Sanibel Island or Marco for as little as $5000, yes, you paid way too much for your points. If you are still within the right-to-cancel period, then CANCEL this contract without delay!!! You can buy resale for far, far less if you want to own in the HGVC system and have exactly the same benefits. (You won't get the 7000 bonus points, but those aren't worth $15,000.)

You will get a bunch of replys from folks telling you to rescind your purchase. I'm one of them. Yes you paid to much...most here have at least once.

Somewhere in your paperwork is a recision form. It will state you have "x" number of days to rescind your purchase. Provided you are still within that window, it's in your interest to do so.

I own 2 HGVC weeks and LOVE the system, but you can get a much better price on the resale market. 5000 points for a two bedroom week is what is allocated within HGVC for a Gold weeek. There are basically 3 seasons now sold within HGVC Platnum, Gold, and Sliver. Platnum weeks are allocated more points for a 2 bdrm, than Gold or Silver season weeks are.

Rescind now, read up here on TUG and learn about T/S's and then purchase when appropriate and you know what you are purchasing.

The following is excepted from the members benefits page of HGVC for your reference:

The HGVClub is a point-based reservation system.

As an HGVClub Member, you will receive an annual allotment of ClubPoints based upon the type of accommodations and season you own at your home resort.

There are many exciting ways to use your ClubPoints, so be sure to consider all the options that follow. You may mix and match these options at your discretion based on the number of ClubPoints in your account.

Keep in mind that each annual allotment of ClubPoints will expire if not used within the generous time frame allowed.

I'm another one who says you paid way too much. You can get the same number of points, even at the same resort, for less than $1.50/point, maybe even $1/point--if watch the sales on ebay and other places. The bonus points aren't worth the difference.

LINSJ: You mention buying on Ebay, but doesn't the seller have to be 'approved' by Hilton to officially sell you the Hilton packages? Is there a difference between buying from an authorized Hilton salesman and on Ebay as far as benefits go?

Hilton has ROFR, but didn't exercise it on several sales of 5,000 and fewer points (at $1.25 and $1/point) that I know of.

The only benefit you give up by buying resale is getting elite level (min. 14,000 points), which most people--including me--say is not worth the difference in prices.

Dude, you've been snookered.
As everyone else says, RESCIND if at all possible, and if not, tell them you'll default, let them sue you and then file Bankruptcy -- not that I recommend actually doing that -- if they won't take it all back.

Otherwise, you've overspent by about $12K. But don't feel too bad. My own brother fell for one of those slick, high-pressure pitches. He bought his T/S from Hilton for $12K in 2002, and let me have it last year for ~$4K.

BTW, the colors indicate in which season your home (deeded) T/S originated, which is only important to know so you can tell how many points it'll take to rent at other properties. IOW, the colors refer to different periods of rental in which the points-required to stay are different.

Yes, unfortunately you paid too much. But so did a lot of us here on TUG. We only found TUG & resales after we bought from the developer.

If you can rescind, please do so ASAP.

If it is past the date to rescind, then simply learn to enjoy your HGVC to the fullest. In spite of some faults, HGVC is still a great club, with great properties and it is super flexible compared to many other timeshare companies.

Best of luck and welcome to TUG. :)

My paperwork says nothing about silver gold rooms. What is that?

3,500 points is a 1 bdr for one week during gold season
5,000 points is a 2 bdrm for one week during gold season
7,000 points is a 2 bdrm for one week during platinum season

silver is less than gold, some locations don't even have a silver season.

Look at the HGVC manual they gave you, it has the seasons for each of the HGCV locations. You purchased 5,000 or 2 bdrm for one week gold season.
