Did I miss something? Do Bonvoy points expire due to inactivity now?

I was looking at my Bonvoy account today, and noticed this banner:

I always thought Bonvoy points were for life/never expired, regardless of activity. Did I miss an announcement perhaps?

Thanks,
David

Bonvoy points expire after 24 months of no qualifying activity. This is not a recent change. As a matter of fact I believe they have temporarily stopped any points from expiring until 2021.

Just do some type of activity at least once a year such as earning points or consuming points and you'll be fine...... pretty easy to do in my opinion.

Or if you can obtain one of the lifetime status your points will never expire.

It appears on mine also and I'm Lifetime Platinum. However, if you have a lifetime elite status points do not expire.

One can easily prevent Bonvoy points from expiring. But one cannot prevent Marriott from devaluing them annually.

Our motto: Earn them and burn them.
