I am trying to purchase our first timeshare. Thanks to all the great research and advice on this site, I purchased a 2BR resale at HGVC I-Drive. Or so I thought.

Thanks to the great advice on this site, I asked for an estoppel letter prior to signing the closing papers. The letter showed the property at HGVC Seaworld and not I-Drive. When I asked for clarification, I was told that it was an oversight and the property was indeed at Seaworld.

I purchased the property from a broker (who shall remain nameless for now) via eBay. Is this a common trick amongst unreputable sellers or could this be an honest mistake? I find it hard to believe that the sellers would mistakenly sign a contract with the wrong property listed.

My second question is if I decide to go forward with a significant price concession, is there a big difference between the two properties? I have read the reviews for both properties and can see my family enjoying the property at Seaworld. I only forsee us going to our home resort once every three or four years.

I'm in the innocent until proven guilty camp, anyone can make a mistake if they are listing lots of units. Since booking Orlando (Seaworld or IDrive) doesn't require home season advantage the only thing that matter from your point of view is the MF of the two units and how many points are conveyed. Those affect your price per point, the lower the better, but the higher purchase price.

I would say its a common problem that the ebay sellers are not carefull about checking what they are selling with what the ad says, not necessarily trying to scam people. Ebay lets you create a new ad based on an existing one, so its easier for them to copy a previous ad than create a new one, then they don't bother editing for the correct description. Some of them have dozens of ads they are working at the same time from multiple systems.

Check the recent messages for 2016 maint fees and decide if the fees are about the same, whether you want to keep Seaworld over Idrive.

I agree with the comments of other posters, but also think this will be to your advantage. My MFs are higher on my I-Drive versus my Sea World, and assuming this holds true for the 2BR (which it should) then you will acquire a lower MF property.

Do make sure that the season is what you were expecting (Platinum?) and that there are no unpaid dues or loans. If these hold up -- congrats on your good fortune!

Best,

Greg
