Did Highlands Inn always have a "split week fee"? What does a sw fee cover?

I know it doubled in the last couple of years, but can't recall if it was there pre-pandemic? There used to be daily housekeeping which I know went away, but what exactly does the split week fee cover?
Does it go directly to Hyatt management or to offset MF expenses at the resorts that charge the fees?

No one at Hyatt could give me an answer and I believe that owners pay for housekeeping in their MFs. I was told it was not for housekeeping, but if anyone books a portfolio pts reservation, they're charged as a housekeeping fee. Doesn't the trust need to pay the same MFs as heritage weeks owners?

Considering there are two cleans during a standard 7 night stay, I'm failing to see $160 in extra expenses if I book a three night and four night split stay, on top of the $86 for booking the reservations myself on the website.

I believe the split week fee has always been there to cover the extra cleaning if staying less than a week. In your case, they may wave one of the fees if you stay in the same unit the whole week. I have heard others in your situation have had one of them waived - assuming you don't have a midweek cleaning.

As you pointed out, it is not a good deal to book a week as 2 split week reservations. But it be the only option if different units and/or weeks.

I didn't get the charge in 2023, 2024, but did 3 times in 2026.

Sounds like they may have waived them before ... but it has always been a normal thing to have to pay the fee everywhere i have been for split weeks. Until the fee increase, split weeks were a great way to save points.

They specifically told me it was not for "housekeeping", but they could not otherwise state was "costs" the fee was covering. Nor whether this fee was offsetting some of the owners' MFs or going into Hyatt's pocket.

Since there are now two housekeeping visits for a seven night stay (down from daily), one should be entitled to two credits for housekeeping imho, but at least one at a minimum, like is offered to PP owners. That's why they call it a "split week" fee, rather than "housekeeping" as with PP

For clarity purposes, I'm not staying one week on two split stays, I'm booking two stays different weeks, because I was not able to make it there on my owner's week

Thanks for confirming. I thought the fee was relatively new, but since it's not consistent from resort to resort, I wasn't 100% sure
