My hubby had his knee replaced last Friday - I think he'll be coming home Wednesday (maybe Tuesday) - any words of wisdom?? I have the shower seat, good chair with arms. Any helpful hints??

My wife had both replaced about 6 years ago. Use the continous motion machine. DO THERAPY NO MATTER HOW MUCH IT MAY HURT. Need this right off the bat to get maximum range of motion and to prevent scare tissue from forming. Keep the paper medical tape over the incisions after staples are removed for several weeks. Use cocoa butter and vitamin e oil after the incision is healed - spread on several times a day and rub in firmly, then after dry put the paper tape back on. Helps to prevent scarring. Don't get in a hurry, follow the Doctor's orders. Do what the Physical Therapist says. My wife had in home therapy for 3-4 weeks. Keep thinking "This, too, shall pass", don't rush it.

No Short Term Rehab?

Does he have the option to go for inpatient short term rehab? At this stage in the game, it's very important that he be able to completely bend and straighten his knee...and he might not get that with at-home or outpatient therapy 3 times a week. He needs to be able to bend at least 100-120 degrees and compleletly straighten his knee. If he's not doing this or close to it, I would definitely request a short term rehab placement where he will get therapy 2 x a day.

I had a uni-compartmental (Oxford) knee replacement in Sept 2006. I'm really pleased with the results. I have to have the other one done in May. I found this site very informative. http://www.kneeguru.co.uk/

He came through with flying colors - operated on last Friday AM - came home Monday 2 PM. PT came today and said he is doing great. She will come 3 X per week for awhile. Walking up and down 2 flights of stains since he got home.
He'll be good with the therapy so I have no worries! Thanks all for the good thoughts.
