There were torrential rain Thursday between noon and 3pm where the French Quarter Fest was put on hold. Apparently Irma Thomas only played less than half of her set when it resumed.

Have a nice half hour with Bag of Donut and some a great crawfish bread (pie) and some decent crawfish cakes with sauce.

Have fond memories of French Quarter Festival. We first visited NOLA in 2008 during FQF when we went to Tulane to check out the school for DS#1. All of us fell in love with NOLA. DS#1 spent four memorable years at Tulane and graduated last June. Too bad that I do not have an excuse to visit NOLA any more :(

lol Lisa,

I been coming to NOLA for 10+ years and I am from Canada so you don't need an excuse to visit.

Friday was good fun and Sat too but you can see the increase in crowds.

Excellent food.
Turtle soup
Alligator and crawfish cheesecake
Militon stuffed with crafish stuffing
Couchon au lait po boys
crawfish bread
pull duck po boys
Alligator corn dogs

Literally there were people dancing in the street around one of the stages.

Is new orleans one of those places you can visit anytime and have fun or is it completely dead with only the seedy side available except during events?

First of all, there are events all the time

Jan Sugar Bowl
Feb Mardi Gras
Mar St Patricks Day Parade
April French Quarter Fest , Jazz Fest
May Jazz Fest
June
July Essence Fest
August Southern Decadence
Sept Southern Decadence
Oct Voodoo Music Experience
Nov Thanksgiving
Dec Christmas

and this year The Superbowl
every four years in Jan The BCS Game
last year The Final Four
next year All Star Basketball

Good Food and Good Music every week of every year,
Museums The Zoo, River Boat Rides, Cooking Classes, Ride The Historic Saint Charles Streetcar

There is something going on and things to do every week of the year

Laissez les bons temps rouler

There are also a lot of other smaller festivals too.

Friends came with me for Easter one year. I only stayed the long weekend and had to leave for work but they stayed the entire week and had a great time. There was a small parade Easter Sunday and they did alligator tour and plantation tour and walked around different areas and ate very very well for not much money.

If you like Jazz or Blues, the music scene is great in NOLA even without these festivals. French Quarter Fest is only local artists for example and some play regular gigs in some of the restaurants and clubs around town.

The seedy side is only a small part of French Quarter. You don't have to see if unless you go looking for it lol

Rained again Sunday am and now it is clear and beautiful.

Music started but lighter crowd this early.

been here the last 4 days for french quarter fest and it is great with good food, good music and people dancing in the street

Terrible tragedy: Will Smith, former Saints defensive end, murdered in the lower Garder District late Saturday night, after he and his wife had attended Fest activities earlier in the day. Crime is out of control in our city.
