We will be visiting this resort for the first time in a couple of weeks and have a few questions. (Traded our Barony Beach week) Can anyone suggest a non-smoking room/building to request that will provide a great view and that is semi close to the resort amenities? Not too close though as to enjoy some peaceful moments also. We also read about a pre check-in and was wondering what that involved. Of course if anyone would like to provide any and all favorite eating spots/experiences please feel free. We will be traveling with our teenage son. Thanks in advance.

If you go to my site (see link below and go to travel) you can see a map of the facility. Be sure to click where it says original size then you can read the building and room numbers. Most all the units are not smoking. The legend on the map will tell you which few are not non-smoking. I haven't stayed in Villas 2 but have walked the entire area. Villas 628 & 619 would be quiet and peaceful but it is further from the hotel. They do have shuttle service the runs about every 30 minutes. But its not that far of a walk. IF you have never stayed there dont do the pre-check in. At regular check in you can get info on the resort. I believe pre-check in is that the guard at the entrance will give you your keys rather than at the front desk.

Things to do & eat; swap meet at local college, lots of unique items; the living desert zoo; gambling at Indian Casino (18 & older at Morango); tram to top of mountain where there is snow this time of year; shopping; River Walk for lots of restaurtants and great movie theater; street fair in downtown Palm Springs on Thursday nights. Lots of good restaurants. Tennis, golf, swimming, spas, saunas, exercising. Maybe others can suggest a few things. Have fun its a great place especially this time of year as it gets warmer. My teenage girls love it ! We are going back in April. You could also drive to Disneyland if you wanted. Its less than 2 hours away.

If you want to be close but not too close avoid the units in Jasmine Court. We've been going to Desert Springs several times a year since 1996. For views and quiet - my favorite buildings to stay in are 619, 628, 646 and 664 (in that order).

We've been to all the Marriott Hotel restaurants more that once and they are all very good. Las Casuelas Nuevas on Hwy 111 has been around a long time and has good Mexican food and beautiful outdoor patio for dining. Good for lunch or dinner. Check out the River at Rancho Mirage for dining and shopping.

The aerial tram is always fun. And, I don't know if your teenager would like it, but we got a big kick out of the Follies in Palm Springs. We usually suggest it to people we know who are going to Palm Desert/Palm Springs. See www.psfollies.com

Have a great trip! :)
