Depositing in several exchange companies

Can you deposit a timeshare in several exchanges and see who matches your request first? I have always used II, but was thinking of trying SFX, but would like to use them both, if possible.

No - the exchange company will verify the deposit with your resort, and they will tell them it has already been deposited with another company.

Look at it this way - other people will want to exchange for your deposit, and you can't have multiple people exchanging for one deposit.

Thought so...

Thanks for the information. I thought it would not be possible, but wanted the confirmation. Do you think depositing with SFX provides any advantage over II?

It really depends on where you want to go - remember that some of the top companies are contracted exclusively with II, and don't do bulk space banking to anyone else (Marriott and Westin for example.)

If you want Mexico or the West Coast - I think those are the strongest areas for SFX.

If you want to use the Marriott to Marriot priority to trade for a Marriott resort, you should go with II.

When you deposit your week with an exchange company it is no longer your week. The exchange company now owns the week.

Isn't II the only exchange company that has request first as an exchange option? If that is true, you can't request first with them and then deposit with another company for them to search. If multiple companies allowed request first, it might be possible.

With many of the small independent exchange companies- you don't have to deposit your week first. You can keep searching and when you find the week you want you can call and then give them your week,

I have done this several times with DAE and Trading Places. Also- Platinum Interchange does not require you to deposit your week. And I also believe RTX doesn't either.

I think if you have a paid SFX membership, you can do a search first and deposit when it matches.

Most with the big exception of RCI will let you do manual searches without depositing. You can only start an ongoing search with one because most will auto deposit as soon as a match is made. You sometimes get a grace period and can reject the match but you still have to have the deposit only connected to one exchange company with an ongoing search.

Right, I was talking about manually searching, which is what I do. I just search with each exchange company until I find something. Then I call.

I never do any manual searches. I decide where and when we want to go and then request that particular resort and dates. The good weeks don't show up online because they are taken already.

I have been doing that for 20 years at SFX and have always received what we requested.

Yes- I get that. The reason I do manual searches (and only the free memberships) is because in most instances when I exchange (which is rarely) I would like to keep my unit/week in case I do not get what I want. Then I simply just use my home week if I can't find something. Not the worse thing. Usually, I only try exchanging my floater week when it falls in a month like November or December. (most times it falls in June or Sept/Oct and I always use it at my home resort). But if I can't get something- I just go to my home resort anyway. My fixed summer weeks I always use at our home resorts.

If I really, really want to go somewhere else in particular- that's when I rent from another timeshare owner. This way I get exactly what I want and when I want without the hassles of the exchange game.
