I’m coming up on 60 days before my check-In to a 3BR OV at Ko Olina and a Hawaii reopening in October is questionable. I always use my weeks so I have not used II for a long time. I am trying to decide whether I should lock the week off or deposit it as a 3BR.

My question is if I deposit it as a 3BR, what is the likelihood of being able to exchange back into a 3BR at Ko Olina? I am able to use any week I can get and am not tied to a specific time of year.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I was able to trade into a MKO Three bedroom earlier this year for a week starting May 1st. Of course we had to cancel but the trade is possible albeit, rare. I used a Gold Mountainside 1BR for the trade. I felt like it was an epic trade at the time. Wish it had worked out.

I think I would ask the question that even if you were to deposit the entire 3 bedroom then what is the likelihood of even seeing another 3 bedroom as an exchange and being able to also procure it. I don't really know the answer to this.

If it’s initially booked as a 3 br through Marriott, you only have 1 confirmation number and could only bank it in II as a 3 br. I might call Marriott to ask if you could cancel that reservation and rebook it as two separate pieces since this year has been so crazy.

Call MVC and see if you can split it then deposit the studio & 2 BR. You should be able to do that since you already have a lockoff booked but call and be certain. You can still request a 3 BR with the 2 BR deposit. Your odds of getting a 3 BR likely won't be any lower doing that. If you have to do a paid account for II, you need to get working on this. For a paid account I think it's even more important to split than a corporate due to needing to make up the costs in other areas.

I would split it for sure. Those studios can be amazing traders, especially for last-minute 2 bedrooms. You can get some great stuff with that studio.

So sorry you are not going to be able to use your week. It's heartbreaking, this virus. It's causing people to lose their maintenance fee dollars. I am fortunate with my choice of purchases because I can deposit my weeks into II without penalty, even one day before check-in. I don't see how I can use all of those deposits, however. I will have to figure that out.

Split it into a studio and 2 br - you can probably get two units with your trade. I`ve traded for 3 br units using a studio before.

DO NOT deposit the unit as a three bedroom. a two bedroom unit will trade really good and so will the studio.

Getting a 3 bd unit will be really difficult not because you aren't trading a great unit but so few three bd units are available for trade.

I believe that by Oct with a neg covid screen you should be able to enjoy a Hawaii vacation. BUT I understand that you may not be willing to risk that.

I would also split based on past data... BUT I will also provide a contrarian view

...also keep in mind that we don't know what will be the impact of all these replacement weeks and canceled vacations post COVID. I believe there will be less to go around because demand will be higher... The 3BR will likely trump almost anything else with Marriott priority, so you will almost certainly beat anything else in an ongoing search.

Good luck.

Ryan
