I know I'm not going to go to my home resort (Desert Springs). I have a White (Mid) week. I have not made my 2012 reservation. Does anyone know or have an educated guess whether or not you get a bit better trading power if you Deposit through Marriott, without making a reservation, or make a reservation and then deposit it directly to Interval yourself?

You should look at the TDI (Travel Demand Index) and determine which is the best week to reserve in your season to obtain the highest trading power, then deposit it into II.

Don't let Marriott pick the week for you. Do your homework and do it yourself and you'll likely have more muscle with your trading power.

Also, deposit sooner, rather than later.

Best of luck!

That is what I guessed would be better. Marriott has no incentive to get me the most value for my week if I leave it up to them.

Strangely, in the past, I have had better success using Request First. But this is not comparing exchanges into the exact same week and resort over the years. However I use to be able to trade into Ko Olina, Hawaii fairly easily with request first. Last two years I did deposit first, and waited 4-6 months and didn't get what I wanted when I wanted it. But all of my requests were for top 50-100 rated (on TUG) resorts in their high seasons. I also think the difference may really be I forgot that back when I was getting easy trades, my kids weren't in school full-time so we didn't have to limit ourselves to summer and school vacation weeks. But that's another topic....

Well, you pick the week you want and reserve it with Marriott. The exchanging process (deposit first/request first) goes through II. You might want to see if your "potential" deposit to II can earn an AC. This can only be done with a deposit first (see AC FAQ).

I would say that you don't want II making your initial reservation.

Someone please validate my statements.
