I just read the Tugg article, “How to Get Rid of a Timeshare.” Here’s my input based on our recent experience.
We’ve owned WorldMark and Marriott for many years and have loved and used both extensively. 15 years into retirement, we started seeing the unused weeks pile up and decided to sell one timeshare. We chose to sell Marriott because the maintenance fees for the two were about the same and WorldMark is much more flexible.
We didn’t want to deal with any fuss or complications with private deals falling through, etc., so we elected to deedback to Marriott at the beginning of last year. I have to say, the experience was completely conflict free and painless. We simply contacted Marriott, they said OK here’s what you do, and we did it. Since we paid the dues for Jan 1, we were able to keep one year’s usage even though we were no longer owners. Within what felt like a very short time, we were released from our ownership.
i know there are other options but this method was best suited to us. Marriott was very easy to deal with.
