Not trying to highjack this thread but, the one week turned in for points to book one night to get cheaper airfare got my attention. Is it really cheaper to pay the MF's on that week and turn it into points to get the cheaper airfare? Would you really save enough money on airfare to come out ahead if you deduct the cost of that weeks MF's?
I get your point that there is potential to break up weeks and remove them from Interval's exchange pool but, I don't think there is sufficient savings that a large enough number of owners will see value in this ideology. At least not to the point it will have any significant affect on Interval's inventory.
We are presenting a similar situation by currently looking at booking Thursday check in dates, which is not a check in day offered by the majority of Marriott resorts. I'm wondering how that's going to affect Interval inventory as it may have the affect of breaking up two weeks at resorts who don't have the Thursday check in option. I suspect the inmapct will be minimal.
Still, there are enough options with DC points that, given enough owners book short stays or odd check in days that it could cause inventory within Interval's weeks exchange program to drop slightly. It all depends on how many legacy weeks owners join the DC and, more importantly, how many that have joined exchange their weeks for points. I'm still thinking this will be a small enough of a percentage that we won't see any significant impact on Interval's inventory for a number of years, if we ever see any real impact at all.
