Going on a cruise in a few weeks......cruise does a stop at St thomas. I have thought about catching a ferry over to st john and hanging out for the day at the westin st john beach, as I want to see what it is like as I might want to stay at WSJ some day. I have called and the concierge said that would be ok as I am an SVN owner. Would this be hard to do logistically in terms of getting there?
-In st thomas, where do i catch the ferry to st john in relation to where the cruise ships dock?
-how far is the WSJ from where the ferry lets off in st john? How far/ expensive of a taxi ride is it to the resort?
-Is the beach there nice?

If given a choice and coming over to WSJ from STT - I would spend little time at the resort beach. I can see looking around and checking things out - but I would head over to ANY of the northside beaches.

There are 3 ferries that go over to STJ - one from CA to Cruz Bay, one from Redhook to Cruz Bay, and then there is the EXPENSIVE WSJ ferry from Crown Bay to Great Cruz Bay (where WSJ is).

It is a about a $6-7 taxi ride from Cruz Bay to WSJ (taxi prices are listed on VINOW.com) - many Taxi-buses will have 'Westin' on them (there are no solo taxis) - and a few go between town and the resort exclusively (unless you pay them to take you elsewhere - which are the north-side beaches). It is not advised to walk, but you can (hot, hilly, and dangerous in spots) - never walk it at night {add an additional danger here}!

The cruise ships will dock in one of a few places - again VINOW will tell you which crusie ships will be docked/moored and where.

It is easy to get from STT-STJ - and easy to get around if you are unencumbered.

VINOW.com will have the ferry time also- and cost

The cruise ship will likely offer a tour - cheaper to do on your own - stop at Woody's in Cruz Bay (great happy hour and food) - also Beach Bar is cool

pack lite - bag to hold snorkle gear, neat sheet, towel, water, hat, swim trunks, sturdy sandals - SUN LOTION, bug spray, and a sandwich - and you are set for the day - see Trunk - Cinnamon, Maho if you can get that far - walk to Honeymoon Bay via Caneel - or scrape all of that - and get to Waterlemon Cay (if you are adventrous)

PS - it is remarkable and memorable place...
