Tremendous amount of relief, joy and excitement in the Cambra family right now!! My daughter is beaming, and so is my wife because the school is local so my daughter won't be moving out anytime soon.

First thing out of my daughter's mouth was "Now about that car" because I told her as soon as we knew her college situation we could talk car. Well here we go with that.

This is just really great news!!

Glad to hear your daughter got her first choice and even better it's a local school. My daughter has been accepted to her first choice but it's a 5 hour drive from us. No big deal..but I am hoping she will at least stay at a local school and do her basics here.

We are also car shopping.. trying to decide between a used or new car. We wanted a new car for her, but the insurance cost would double once we added her.:bawl:

Good luck with your car search.:)

Hofstra is a great school but would not exactly call it local from Kings Park:)

That's great Joe! Congratulations.

I've been through it with 2 DD's already.
I hope my 3rd DD gets her #1 choice next year. I think it's gonna be a long shot.

Congratulations to you, your wife and your daughter. Big day and relief.

I remember the feeling regarding our son. He is graduating this May and it is hard to believe that four years have gone by already. He wants to be a physical therapist, so he needs to complete a doctorate program- another three years. He has applied to almost ten schools and just received invitations for interviews with two of them. Still waiting on the others. So, we are starting the process again. Very excited for him as he continues to progress and do well.

We wish continued success for your daughter.

Ooooh, exciting times! Congrats to your daughter and good thoughts for you and your wife - while you always want the best for your kids, it's not always easy to let them go and find it.

Congratulations to your daughter!

My daughter will be going to a state university about 3 hours from our house. Close enough to come home whenever she wants but far enough away to feel "on her own". A plus: she will be rooming with a close friend who has a car! No need for them both to have a car, right? ;)

On Saturday I'm driving her there for an interview for a full scholarship. She is nervous, we have our fingers crossed. Only 30 of these are given out and it's a big school (20,000 undergraduates).

Best of luck to all of our graduates! :cheer:

I believe this as well. This was her choice to stay close to home so we'll just glad that is the case. Its a great school so we're also very pleased with that.

Dittos, Joe.

That's awesome.

Know exactly how you feel. Our daughter will be graduating from college in May and was just accepted to dental school, and the state medical and dental schools are here in our hometown, so O Happy Day! We're ecstatic as you are. Dancing in the streets, we are.

Son is 4 hrs away in law school, so it's tough. So hard to realize they are all grown up. I live in a state of denial. Actually it's hard to believe I'm grown up-----sometimes I wonder. But nevertheless, time slips away......

Congratulations to your daughter!

We had the good fortune of having both our children go to a college within walking distance of our home. Our son graduated from there, our daughter went for two years then transferred to the University of Victoria. Then our son's fiance got accepted to UBC and they moved to Vancouver. Both kids left home the same weekend - we were pretty shell-shocked. We ended up moving to Vancouver Island a few years later...

Congratulations! I would give anything to have my children stay close to home. Anywhere in So Cal would be fine with me. Heck, even Nor Cal would be ok. Just please don't let it be 3000 miles away on the East Coast!!

Awesome, congrats!! I am still waiting - my daughter is transferring from community college and she was accepted into her second choice - CSU San Bernardino - and we are still waiting to hear from her first choice - CSU Fullerton. I already bought the car... between that car and the school payment, that's a lot of timeshares I will need to sell!!

We got her a new limited Hyundai Elantra - awesome mileage, reliable and affordable.

When I went to UC San Diego for my phd, I paid my way through with scholarships and assistant work, and took the bus. These days kids are spoiled!!

congrats, it is a big relief.
My son, now a freshman, was accepted to three EA schools last year and one with rolling admission so he had 4 choices before Christmas. It makes the end of March much less nerve racking.

He is 10 hrs. away but I'm more than happy for him.

Congrats! I graduated from Hofstra and now live in Saint James. I hope she is living on campus because Kings Park is not all that close. My husband commuted from Nesconset to NY Tech for 4 years. Lots of gasoline used, lots of time wasted driving.
Besides... living on campus is a valuable experience in being self reliant and resourceful.:cheer:

Keep your fingers crossed!

Our oldest DD left for school in Fort Worth 6-1/2 years ago. FW is only 4-1/2 hours away, and we absolutely love it there, but I am sad to say that DD met a boy and is still there. It is difficult to think that she may never move back to Houston. She is not only our DD, but she is also DW's best friend. It is hard on each of them at the end of a visit when it's time to drive back home.

Good news is that she is only half a day's drive away.

Having attended 8 universities before I graduated I think I can safely say that if you have a Son or Daughter that doesn't get accepted by the school of thier choise, have them enroll in any school with a decent reptutation and get close to an A in each of their classes. If they then reapply to the university of their first choice, the chances are good that they will be accepted.

OMG. I could have written this post. My son is in the same situation. CC transfer accepted to San Bdno waiting on Fullerton. He wants Fullerton. Previous CC transfer students from our area report hearing from Fullerton in mid February. Hope so. Housing applications for transfer students opens March 1.

Good Luck to her!

Good luck to your daughter Joe. I have really enjoyed having my son here with us while he took classes locally. He has really grown and matured so much that I think we are both ready to have him transfer and live away. I won't like it BUT it's time.

Is he local or out of area? My daughter is out of area, and the GPA threshold is higher for out of area kids. I assume your son is local to San bernardino as well - they got in since they have priority. Her GPA is 3.5 - It all depends where they put the threshold. In 2010 they accepted kids out of area with minimum 3.7 GPA, but I heard the threshold was lower in 2011 (I could not find what it was). Keep me posted if you hear a decision! I keep looking online but no decision yet!
