I was offered a hybrid package to get me to chairman’s level of 3950 points which comes out to right around $8 per point. Last time I was offered a hybrid package, I believe it was in the $6 to $7 range. I was told for the point amount I need, $8 per point is the best deal available. I was also told Marriott is being much more selective as to who it offers hybrid packages to going forward since it competes with sales of trust points. The rep said since I have already purchased hybrid packages in the past and have purchased resale, MVC is okay with continuing to offer me hybrid packages. He said it just requires manager approval. I am wondering if anyone has purchased or been offered a hybrid package recently and at what cost per point?

There have been offers around $7 - $8 per point being posted here and on Facebook pages. However, I would not accept his reasoning for your price point. They are not being any more selective about to whom they will sell. Sorry, but I believe he was lying. After all, his lips were moving. :)

I was offered a hybrid with a cost around $8 per point as well back in October 2018.

I posted this offer I received this past August.

So I have come to my hometown of NYC. I stayed at the Pulse. It’s in a great location but the units are very small. I am at The Element on 39th and 8th and the rooms are bigger plus the have breakfast. Anyhow, I got 45,000 points just for doing the presentation that I did not want to do.

Anyhow their push for me was that I should go to Chairman as I am 1500 points shy and with Vistana and others coming in there will be new benefits for Chairman level. that I will want like the yachts. They offered me 2000 points and 4000 bonus points for $23,340. When I told them I could get those same 2000 points resale for $16,000 and I could get exactly what I need which was 1500 points for about $12,000, the financial guy got down to working. He came back with a hybrid deal for a platinum one bedroom Custom House which elects to 2475 DC points and the 2000 points for about $24,500. He said that it equated to $6.50 per point. The salesman tried to stress that my portfolio lacked Bonvoy points because my three weeks only had every other year exchange for Bonvoy points while Custom House was able to exchange to 100,000 Bonvoy points EVERY year. I do not see the value in Bonvoy points in exchange for a week. Plus, I told him I am from the Bronx and bleed Pinstripes. Why the heck would I want a place in Boston!
Anyhow, I explained to them I did not want any additional maintenance fees. That was going to add another $3000 in maintenance fees. They were disappointed of course.

While I do think the upfront costs are important, I tend to feel the long term costs and usage options are even more so. What was the underlying week/resort?

It was Cypress Harbour. How is the resort for long term costs and usage options?

The resort is fine if you'll use it. The points for dues aren't too bad for a Special or Summer week but are very poor for a Sport week. If I wanted to use it most years or just take points I think that's fine though I do think there are better potential options. Is it 2 sport weeks or a week plus points? I was just trying to get to the 3950 points and hoping it wasn't 2 Sport weeks.

It was 2000 trust points plus 1950 points from Cypress Harbour. They called it Cypress Sport so it must have been a sport week.

I wouldn't unless you'll use the week itself routinely. I'd try to get a better week/better points per dues even if more expensive.

Great, I appreciate the feedback. I agree that it didn’t seem like the best hybrid package.

Each time I go to an owner's update, I present them with one proposal if they want to be successful in getting us to Chairman Club level. I said since I could buy points from resale and between money paid to seller + junk fees, I could get points to about $7 per point or less, it would make sense for Marriott to sell points under special circumstances like for someone to get to the next level at around $7-$8 per point. I have no interest in wanting to own more than what it gets us to the next level, as a hybrid package would get us too many points and MF obligations.

I need about 3400 points to get to Chairman’s Club level. The amount of points he included in his proposal was close at 3950.

In reality we really have no interest in going to Chairman's Club because the Marriott hotel side is making me so mad. The hotel side stresses me so much, I have spent many hours several times a week for the past 4 months talking to them and problems keep happening. I dread the same mess is going to happen on the Marriott end when some sort of software change happens to bring Vistana into Marriott system.

A sport plus 2000 pts should be 3975 pts. I'm not sure their minimum points for such a hybrid package but I'd personally rather pay more and get a better week. Preferably a week I would use and/or one with a better per point maintenance fee. But it might be more money up front if they require the 2000 point purchase. If you're serious about proceeding I'd either push them for a better week or for some specific choices that you want to own anyway. We've seen reports of OP & Desert platinum weeks as well as purchases for non US options. You may want to look at Spain since you're now trying to enroll, just add 3400 points. Let's say you buy a week that's less than the 3975, say 3400 to 3500 and you pay slightly more per point but have much better fees per point and a better underlying ownership. I think that would be better in my mind.
