Current Diamond owner looking at acquiring Hilton Max resale

Diamonds Points 8500/yr
I currently own 8500 Diamond points and I’m looking to acquire additional points that are Hilton Max. What are my options with my 8500 Diamond points? How do I move them over or do I even need or want to move them over. I want to make sure that it’s not like what Diamond does when you acquire re-sales. What I mean by that is you lose club privileges and have to buy 50% more to get back in when you acquire resale. They treat you like a red headed step-child essentially. I have an opportunity to acquire some Hilton points for free and just pay the transfer fees. I just want to make sure that I don’t lose any Hilton privileges by acquiring resale, and it doesn’t affect my diamond ownership. I hope this isn’t too complicated. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Just a point of clarification - “Hilton Max” doesn’t transfer on resale to new owners. They just become regular HGVC points.

However, for most legacy owners this is likely sufficient as the only thing Max gives you in addition to being a regular HGVC member is the ability to book Diamond properties at 6 months (by then most of the good stuff is snapped up). With some exceptions you won’t be able to get elite status with resale HGVC - but that doesn’t really add much more many people.

HGVC does treat their resale owners well - you can book just like anyone else at 9 months.

Since you already own Diamond you would almost be creating your own Max program - just with earlier booking windows onto both sides.

That’s awesome information! Thanks!

If you acquire an HGVC resale deed (or points but HGVC points are all tied to deeds), you will end up with two separate accounts (original DRI/HVC and new HGVC account). The HGVC deeds do lose their HGV Max exchange benefits on resale (if it was HGV Max to start with) but that shouldn't matter since you will be a member of both clubs with much better access. This is our recommendation if you want access to both clubs. Btw, HGVC treats their resale owners very well. Hopefully, the "free" HGVC deed is worth acquiring.
