I' ve been using a Cross Pen and Pencil since I received them as a college graduation gift .
Over the years, the original Cross Pen "mysteriously" disappeared and was replaced by several others I either purchased outright or via eBay.
The ballpoint threads on my latest Cross Pen became stripped and retracting the ballpoint no longer worked properly.
I still have the original Cross Pencil but I haven't used if for a few years because the black tip had come off.
So, when my Cross Pen stopped working, I decided to send the Pen and Pencil for repair to the A.T. Cross Company, One Albion Road, Lincoln, RI 02865
I included a $20 check - Cross has a $10 service fee policy for each repair.
The repairs took about 6 weeks before I received my Pen and Pencil back along with a note from Cross telling me that Cross has stopped manufacturing the 0.5mm and 0.9mm pencil and they no longer have parts to repair my pencil. Instead, Cross converted my pencil to a new 0.7mm pencil mechanism called 'Switch-It'. The note said to visit www.cross.com and type in 'switch-it' in the search bar to learn more from their video on operating instructions.
In essence, I now have a combination Pen/Pencil. For the unit to work as a pencil, I would have to purchase a 'switch-it' mechanism, that looks like a ballpoint pen refill and swap it out with the ballpoint pen mechanism.
So, I'm thrilled - I now have 2 pens (and a Pencil if I want, which I rarely use any more).
I wanted to let others know who might be interested that Cross is no longer manufacturing the Pencil and they still stand behind their products.
I love Cross Pens.
Richard
