Shanghai, China has entered a sixth week of paralyzing COVID lockdowns— with no end in sight. The ripple effect is being felt across the healthcare system in the U.S. Much-needed intravenous contrast dye, produced at a manufacturing plant in Shanghai, is running out.

Hospitals are now rationing care because of the severe shortage of the IV contrast media.

Since the immediate cause of the crisis is the Chinese covid lockdown, this link had to be posted in this forum. This, however, is just part of a broader concern. It is totally deplorable (IMHO) how we (the US) have allowed ourselves to become totally dependent on China for most of the ingredients in our medications. Totally scary. Cheaper is not always better.

This is great news. That contrast has horrible side effects, way worse than the covid vaccine. People have died from its use. A doctor on the internet said no one should let their radiologist use it.

A doctor on the internet? I’ll go for that.

This is exactly why I am very skeptical of electric cars that depend on lithium batteries replacing hybrids that run on something we have plenty of (if we are allowed to produce it).

Also the extra weight of the batteries causes extra tire wear and is harder on roads than the same ice car.

I've had two of those scans. They are literally the WEIRDEST medical experience I have had so far. It's short but odd. It makes you feel like you wet the bed! But you didn't. So bizarre.
