I'm going to have a credit card that will be 90% for fuel purchases
Approx $1500/mo

Anyone know what the best reward card would be?

I know flyertalk has more info, but I don't want to join and go through all that.

Thanks
Dave

The Costco American Express card has 3% back on gas purchased at Costco and at brand name gas stations. 1% back on everything else.

I think there is a non-Costco Amex card with the same terms although it would have an annual fee.

DD has a Discover card that gives 5% back on gas. Her husband had one, and she had the one I had that has special promotions every couple of months. She called up and told them she wants the one that gives 5% on gas all the time (I don't think she gets back on anything but gas) and they gave it to her.
This was about 3 years ago. She and her DH still have it, but I don't know if they offer it anymore.

The notes I have say that the Costco AmEx only does 3% on the first $3000/year of gas spending, and the OP spends $1500/month.

You might check Penfed and Citi Drivers Edge to see what their current deals are (if they're still around). At one point, they were the best deals for gas spending.

PayPal Mastercard: Earn Triple Reward Points for every $1 you spend at gas stations and restaurants.

Discover card: 1% on every purchase all the time. Twice this year, running special for 5% on gas station purchases. The specials run for 2-3 months each.

The fine print that they don't tell you. Paypals points do not equal a whole 1. So, when they give you 1 point, you don't get a $1. worth of merch or cash back. It comes back at a lower rate.

Discovers one point does equal a whole 1. They also have partner gift cards that you can buy with your points for less than the cash retail of the card.

For example, if I had 70 points, I could get one of the following:
$70. Discover gift card
$70. cash back
OR
$75. Shell gas card.

All things considered, Discover is the better deal than the paypal mastercard.

PenFed gives 5% on gas purchases

Our card at PenFed (the Pentatgon Federal Credit Union) gives 5% on gas and 3% on supermarket purchases.

Discover used to give us 5% on gas, too. But if I recall correctly, that was limited to something like the first $1500 of purchases.

Clear Blue Amex - 5% on gas and food after you spend $6500. We overload the card the first month and hit the $6500 so the rest of the year we get the 5%. It adds up to any where from $1400-$2000 a year for us.
